Vape Tanks The Best for Different Vaping Needs

Vaping Daily has compiled an overview of the best vape tanks. We are going to show you a few of the most versatile tanks, as well as a couple of sub ohm cloud makers.

Best Vape Tanks

#1 Halo Reactor Shorty Vape Tank

Affordability, reliability, and versatility. These are the hallmarks of the Halo Reactor Shorty vape tank. This is not a cloud chasing tank. What we have here is an easy to use, reliable, and very enjoyable everyday vape. In other words, the Halo Reactor Shorty vape tank is a practical choice for vapers that boasts the added bonus of being easy on your budget.

Halo is one of the earliest American e-cig brands. Although they are probably more famous for their award-winning Halo vape juice, Halo does work with some of the world’s leading electronic cigarette manufacturers and offers excellent, top-quality vape gear. Including the Halo Reactor Shorty Vape tank.

The Halo Reactor Shorty is a sub ohm tank for use with VG e-liquids. The design is simple. Sturdy, stainless steel construction with top-fill design, 510 connection, and compatible with 510 drip tips. The adjustable airflow allows for a wide range and the knurling makes it easy to adjust airflow on the fly.

Another bonus here is the plentiful coil options and the very affordable price of replacement coils. This will add up to a big bonus in the long-term value you will get out of the Reactor Shorty. The tank comes with a 0.5 ohm coil. You can get 5-packs of replacement coils is Ni200, Stainless Steel, Kanthal, and even Claptons.

If you enjoy both standard MTL vaping and sub-ohm DL vaping, the V2 Vapor2 Trinity tank provides you both options in one vape tank. You can get the Vapor2 Trinity mod kit or the tank by itself. This is a multi-use vape tank. Coil options include 1.2 ohm, 0.8 ohm, and 0.5-ohm resistance levels. You can enjoy MTL vaping with PG e-liquids with the 1.2-ohm atomizer. And you can enjoy sub ohm DL vaping with VG e-liquids with the 0.8 ohm and 0.5-ohm atomizers.

The Vapor2 Trinity is precision engineered and constructed of the best quality materials. All components and connections connect quickly and easily. The base detaches smoothly and swapping coils is an effortless process. Nothing to be intimidated about, nothing complex, easy to use and maintain. The top-fill makes refilling the tank with vape juice very clean and convenient.

The tank has a 2ml capacity which is on the small side but it has a large chimney section allowing for ample vapor production. With a 2 ml tank capacity, you will probably have to refill the tank once or twice a day depending on how much you vape. If you are vaping the 1.2 ohm coils, 2 ml could last you a full day. If you are vaping the sub ohm coils, then you will want to keep your vape juice with you for refills.

At the end of the day, the Vapor2 Trinity tank is all about vapor production. For a compact tank with smaller coils, the vapor output is tremendous. Using both the MTL and DL coils you get excellent flavor. Vibrant flavors and ample vapor. This is the combination you want and why the Vapor2 Trinity has earned a spot among the best vape tanks.

Pros
  • Excellent construction
  • Surprisingly excellent vapor production

#3 Smok TFV12 Cloud King

This one is for the cloud chasers. The Smok TFV12 Cloud King vape tank will let you push your high powered mods to the freaky edges of their capability. If you have a 300-watt quad mod, prepare for maximum vapor! In fact, the 12 headed coil option can take up to 350 watts! The TFV12 follows in the path of the Smok TFV8 Cloud Beast vape tank. But we are way past beast mode here. This really is the Cloud King.

Smok TFV12 Cloud King

Smok infused the TFV12 with all of the latest vaping technology. The top-fill cap has an easy access slide open function that is specifically designed to resist wear and tear. The overall construction is impeccable. This is a vape tank designed to last for a very long time. The TFV12 is a full-sized 6 ml capacity tank and it needs to be because the vape coils are huge.

There are six different coil head options. TFV12 coils include the 12 head 0.12 ohm coil for massive vapor. There is a 0.16 ohm six head coil, a 0.15 ohm quad coil, and another quad coil that is actually two dual coils side by side. For coil builders, there are triple and dual coil decks available.

One thing that I would suggest is that if you are using the TFV12 at super high wattages making massive clouds, then you should think about a lower nicotine level than you usually use. There will be that much more vapor. Massive vapor production and great flavor. That’s why the Smok TFV12 is the Cloud King of vape tanks.

Pros
  • Best vape tank for clouds
  • Durable, wear resistant construction

Cons
  • Geared toward cloud chasing enthusiasts
  • Goes through a lot of e-juice

#4 Uwell Crown Sub Ohm Tank

The Uwell Crown sub ohm vape tank is regarded by many as the Crown Jewel of vapor. It has become a classic. This is the tank that others are compared to. Since the original Uwell Crown was launched, new versions have been released but the original maintains its ranking among the very best vape tanks.

Uwell Crown Sub-Ohm Tank

The precision machined, stainless steel body of the Crown subtank by Uwell is made to last. Many of the Crowns purchased two years ago are still going strong today as everyday vapes. There are a number of coil options including an Ni200 for temp control vaping and even a 1.2 ohm coil for PG e-liquids and MTL vaping. For for my money the Uwell Crown is a rockstar as a straight up sub ohm vape with the 0.25 ohm coils or the 0.5 ohm coils.

Dozens if not hundreds of new and innovative tanks and atomizers have been released in the two plus years that the Uwell Crown has been out there. But the Crown is simply rock solid in every way and remains on the list of the top sub ohm vape tanks because it gets the job done. Nothing fancy, the Crown just rolls up its sleeves and makes dense, flavorful vapor. There are so many vapers, myself included, that can’t quit the original Uwell Crown!

Pros
  • Tried tested and true, proven performer
  • Excellent quality construction, noticeable precision
  • Very durable
  • Multiple coil options including MTL and Temp control
  • Adjustable airflow, smooth draw
  • Quartz glass tank

Cons
  • Can leak, replace O-rings as needed

#5 Mig Vapor WTF

The Mig Vapor WTF vape tank is one of those hidden gems of vaping. It is basically a classic design re-envisioned. You have the compact size with smaller coils but with big e-juice ports and more airflow that is drawn right through the heart of the coil. The WTF (WTF!) has a large base to accommodate the huge and smooth airflow. The big base also makes it easier to attach to your favorite mods.

Mig Vapor WTF tank

One more than one occasion have unsuspecting vapers thought they were unthreading their tank from a mod only to discover they were actually detaching the base of the tank! Suddenly, a gush of escaping e-juice flows anywhere and everywhere. It can be a mess. This usually happens with vape tanks with a small base. That is why I really like the large base of the Mig Vapor WTF tank. No leaks and no messes.

With a 3.7 ml vape juice capacity, the WTF tank enjoys a nice sweet spot between compact portability and capacity. The drip tip is attached to the top cap and makes for an easy grip top-fill access for juice refills.

WTF coils come in a 0.2 ohm and 0.5 ohm option. The 0.5 ohm is perfect for everyday vaping. The 0.2 ohm coil is for when you want to let your hair down and make some bigger clouds. WTF coils are Kanthal with organic cotton. The vapor production is outstanding. The larger juice ports on the coils make a big difference for both vapor and flavor.

Pros
  • Compact and easy to use
  • Large e-liquid capacity for its size
  • Stainless steel construction, glass tank
  • Small, easy to replace coils with big vapor
  • Comes in 6 different colors
  • Organic cotton coils
  • Crisp flavors
  • Large airflow
  • Very easy to use top-fill vape tank
Cons
  • Can’t change drip tips

What Is A Vape Tank?

The vape tank is a vaping device that contains both the e-liquid and atomizer and connects to an e-cig or mod to create vapor.

Vape tanks are made up of several components. Let’s take it from the top:

  • Drip tip
  • Top cap
  • Tube (usually Pyrex or quartz glass)
  • Chimney
  • Atomizer / coil
  • Tank Base
  • 510 connection

Now we will take a quick look at each of these components one by one.

Drip Tip – the drip tip is the mouthpiece that you puff on. It may be a narrow drip tip for MTL vaping or a wide-bore drip tip for MTL vaping. Drip tips can come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Delrin drip tips are designed to be heat resistant and remain cool when vaping and high power settings. The most common size of drip tip is the 510. If you see a tank that has a 510 drip tip, then any 510 drip tip will be compatible.

Top Cap – the top cap is the top piece of the vape tank assembly. The top cap may thread into the chimney or may be permanently attached to the chimney depending on the specific model. Today’s top-fill vape tanks typically use a removable cap, a rotating, or sliding feature to give access to the tank for quick refills.

Tube – the tube is simply the glass or metal tank that contains the e-liquid.

Chimney – the chimney is the section of the vape tank that connects the cap to the base and where the produced vapor is drawn through the drip tip.

Atomizer / Coil – the atomizer coil is the heart of the vape tank. The atomizer coil contains the heating coil and wick material, ideally organic Japanese cotton. The resistance level of the coil determines how much power is drawn from the battery and how much heat is generated. Coils generally last one to three weeks before requiring replacement. A reduction in performance or a burnt taste are indicators that it is time for a new atomizer coil.

Tank Base – the tank base typically houses the atomizer coil and securely holds the glass tube in place to contain the e-juice. O-rings prevent leakage. The tank base is where you will most often find the adjustable airflow valve.

510 Connection – the 510 connection is the part of the vape tank that connects to the vape device. 510 is the most common, almost universal, connection in the vaping industry.

Types of Vape Tanks

Mouth To Lung Vape Tanks

Mouth To lung vape tanks rely on atomizer coils over 1.0 ohms in resistance. In many circles, these are considered to be the best vape tanks for beginners. You can use a 50 / 50 or 70 / 30 PG / VG vape juice. You draw the vapor into your mouth and then inhale. Much the same way you would smoke a cigarette.

MTL vaping tanks do not produce as much vapor as sub ohm tanks. By the same token, MTL tanks generally have a stronger throat hit than sub ohm tanks because of the higher PG e-liquid and higher nicotine concentration.

Mouth To Lung Vape Tanks:

  • Use atomizers with resistance over 1.0 ohms
  • Draw vapor into mouth and then inhale
  • For use with e-liquids with at least 50% PG content
  • Not for use with high VG e-liquids

Direct Lung Sub Ohm Vape Tanks

Sub Ohm vape tanks are designed for sub ohm vaping, which is vaping with an atomizer that has a resistance less than 1.0 ohms. The idea behind sub ohm vaping is to generate more vapor production. The lower resistance coils draw more power from the batteries which vaporizes more e-liquid creating more vapor than an MTL tank.

Sub ohm tanks might also be called direct lung vape tanks. Direct Lung means that instead of drawing vapor into your mouth before inhaling, you inhale the vapor directly into your lungs. Generally, DL tanks have a wider bore drip tip to draw more vapor from coils. Designed for use with VG e-liquids. Nicotine content does not need to exceed 6 mg.

DL Sub Ohm Tanks:

  • Use atomizers with resistance less than 1.0 ohms
  • Draw the vapor directly into the lungs
  • For use with VG e-liquids

Temperature Control Vape Tanks

Temperature control vape tanks, or TC tanks, is a bit of a misnomer. Any tank can be a temp control vaping tank as long as you use an appropriate coil and a box mod. It is the coil material used in the atomizer coil the determines whether or not you can use any given vapor tank in TC mode.

The three main types of coil wire used in temperature control vaping are nickel, stainless steel, and titanium.

Temp Control Coil Wires:

  • Nickel (Ni or Ni200)
  • Stainless steel (SS)
  • Titanium (Ti)

Stainless steel coil are the only ones that can be vaped in both variable wattage mode and temperature control mode.

Many of the top-rated vape tanks offer coils with temperature control capable wire. If you are interested in TC vaping, look for tanks that offer coils with Ni, SS, or Ti options.

Vape Tanks For Building Coils

Many vapers enjoy building their own vape coils. It can be difficult to make your own coils and certainly takes some practice and experience. Not long ago, cloud chasers had to build their own custom coils to get the huge vape clouds they were looking for. With today’s vape tanks and advanced sub ohm coils, the art of coil building is no longer necessary.

Though no longer necessary, many vapers simply enjoy the process of building their own atomizers. Some say it saves money vs buying replacement coils all the time. That is true. Whatever the reason, there is still a strong and thriving contingent of very skilled coil builders in the vaping community.

While some vape tanks do some with the option of a rebuildable coil called an RBA, both RDAs and RTAs are specifically designed for coil builders.

RDA

An RDA is a rebuildable drip atomizer. The best RDAs offer a large atomizer deck that makes the building and installation of DIY coils easier. RDAs do not typically have a reservoir of e-liquid to keep the wick saturated. Instead, you drip e-liquid directly onto the coils as needed. This is called dripping. An RDA is not really a vape tank.

  • RDA – rebuildable drip atomizer
  • Atomizer deck designed for building your own coils
  • No tank or vape juice reservoir
  • Vape juice dripped onto atomizer as needed
  • Used for the “dripping” vaping method

RTA

An RTA is essentially a combination of RDA and vaping tank. RTA stands for rebuildable tank atomizer. Tank, as is in there is indeed a tank that contains e-liquid that keeps the wick saturated with your favorite vape juice. And rebuildable, as in there is an atomizer deck designed for building your own coils to your own specifications.

  • RTA – rebuildable tank atomizer
  • Atomizer deck made for DIY coil building
  • A tank to contain a reservoir of vape juice

How Long Do Vape Coils Last?

There is no definitive time frame that you can expect a vape coil to last. It all depends on how you vape. For example, if you vape a 0.5 ohm coil at 30 watts you will get more coil life than if you vape at 50 watts. How often you vape is obviously another factor. The vape device that you use is also a big player in this equation.

If you have the best quality box mod with a consistent, reliable power output, that will be easier on your coils. If you have a low-quality device with inconsistent power output, this stress the coil and shortens life. Frankly, when you use the best e-cigs the extra money spent might easily pay for itself in helping ensure maximum coil efficiency.

The better quality the coil, the more you will get out of it. The vape tanks that we have focussed on here have all had the coil quality factored into our ranking.

  • Vape coils typically last between 1 and 3 weeks
  • Ensure you use coils designed for the vape tank you are using
  • Follow recommended wattage range suggested by manufacturer

Cheap Vape Tanks

Cheap, low-quality tanks are to be avoided. You can get good quality cheap vape tanks but beware the cost of the coils! Sometimes, the devil really is in the details and a low retail price can be tempting. Just remember that on every week to three weeks you need to replace the coils.

Clone Vape Tanks

Clone vape tanks are a major concern. In fact, fake e-cigs overall is a problem that consumers should be paying more attention to. Be careful when buying any of the popular imported products and that includes coils! Yes, even coils are cloned and dumped into international markets where they are sold, often unwittingly, by retailers.

The problem with clone vape tanks is that there are no standards or assurances of quality control. In fact, many clone or fake vapor tanks are made of the cheapest available materials. Always check the authenticity code with the manufacturer to verify you have an authentic product. The idea of a clone or fake, of course, is to undercut the price of the real thing and lure vapers into deals that are too good to be true. The end result is most often a defective product and a lousy vape.

Buying directly from US vape companies like V2, Halo, and Mig Vapor helps you avoid this concern altogether. The US companies exert strict inventory control of their products and this does not give the counterfeiters a window to take advantage. If you do buy an imported vapor product, make sure you buy from a reputable vendor and authenticated dealer like Direct vapor.

The Top Rated Vape Tanks

The best vape tanks provide the best possible vaping experience. Leading manufacturers like Smok, Uwell, Halo, etc have earned their reputations as proven performers. The best tanks and atomizers are made of the best quality materials and meticulously engineered. Little details like how the airflow is directed through the coil are carefully designed for optimal vaping. The best reliably perform and deliver.

  1. All of this you-fill-it stuff is already outdated. Change out your coils monthly, add more and bigger batteries, fuss with tastes and nicotine percentages as you try to find the perfect mix that makes you want to stop smoking completely… Easy fix here. I’ve done my homework and have tried SO many different mechanisms. I recently turned 61 and have been a smoker for over 42 years. Tried most of the behemoths but finally settled on a relatively new, smaller version at the behest of several of my friendly ex-smokers. In my world, easier is better. The Vuse Vibe is exactly what I was looking for to toss out the Pall Malls and it took exactly one puff to put down the smokes for good and move on to a more clean-smelling, satisfying toke. It’s been 9 weeks since I smoked tobacco. I’m an old fart who doesn’t like change so that alone should tell you something. One warning on the Vibes…they have several flavors but I can only handle the ‘Mint’ (blue and white box) one. The others are way too harsh and burn my throat. If you like peppermint, this is the way to get off tobacco 🙂

  2. I need an atomizer kit that is most effective for medical marijuana vape oil, which is the only prescribed smokable allowed in my state at this time.
The Cubis seems to be the one on here, if I’m reading correctly.
Please reply with a yea or nay, and any other suggestions for getting the most out of my THC oils. Thanks.

  3. Usually I do not learn article on blogs, however I would like to say that this write-up very forced me to take a look at and do it! Your writing taste has been amazed me. Thanks, quite great article.

  4. Pretty nice post. I just stumbled upon your blog and wished to mention that I have truly enjoyed browsing your blog posts. In any case I will be subscribing for your feed and I am hoping you write again very soon!
