Top Vape Pens for Dry Herbs

Vape pens don’t offer the best experience with dry herbs, and we recommend more powerful dry herb vaporizers for this. However, we understand that there are times when you need a more compact, more portable and more concealable device for vaping your flowers, so let’s talk about some of the best vape pens for dry herbs.

#1 V2Pro Series 3x Dry Herb Vape Pen

#2 MigVapor Ceramic Dry Herb Vape Pen

Matrix Dry Herb VapePrice: $139.95

Matrix is the most customizable dry herb vaporizer pen.  Matrix Dry Herb Vape Pen gives you the freedom to choose between 300F and 43F, with an increment of just 1F.

Matrix Dry Herb Vape Pen gives you the freedom to choose between 300F and 43F, with an increment of just 1F. When we put the Matrix through its paces, it came as a pleasant surprise that the temperature customization is not just a publicity trick, but it actually works.

Again, it’s the high price tag and size you’d expect from a portable vaporizer that pushed the pen vaporizer down the list, although it surely is worth every cent.

Top Vape Pens for Waxes and Dabs

For our full guide to best dab pens, visit our Best Dab/Wax Pens Guide page.

#1 Mig Vapor Yabba Dabber Wax Vape Pen

Yabba Dabber Dab penPrice: $49.95

When Mig Vapor first launched Yabba Dabber Wax Vape Pen, it instantly attracted every vapers attraction with the amazing power and features it has to offer.

It comes with a decent 500 mAh battery that lasts fairly long, while the advanced ceramic heating plate can bake waxes at an ideal temperature range of 400-455F.

It’s small, portable and concealable. Based on convection method, it offers a true vaping experience for waxes and can heat up in just about 3 seconds.

#2 Keymaker Wax Vape Pen

Keymaker Wax Vaporizer PenPrice: $39.95

The Keymaker wax pen is high on our list because it’s extremely affordable and provides massive clouds of vapor, a welcome surprise in such a small pen. Imprinted with the Mig Vapor logo and shaped just like a USB memory stick, the Keymaker doesn’t only look stylish but also fits in your pocket or hand very easily.

The pen features a 360mAh battery that fully charges in 60 minutes but can last for a lengthy vaping session. What makes it perfect for dabs is its ability to go above 455°F with a two-second heat-up time, which is all the more remarkable in a device measuring only 0.75 x 4.5 in.

The Keymaker is also a handy dab device for quick refilling, and the sophisticated non-stick silicone container provided with the kit make the entire experience hassle-free.

#3 Dr. Dabber Aurora

Dr. Dabber AuroraPrice: $99.95

At number three on our list is one of the highest-performing, and most expensive, dab pens: the Dr. Dabber Aurora wax pen. What’s unique about the Aurora is that while most other vape pens offer a single heat setting, this device allows you to customize your vaping for a particular concentrate with one of three settings.

Another exclusive characteristic of the Dr. Dabber wax pen is its snap-tech magnetic capabilities. This innovation ensures that the device assembly and disassembly are extremely easy. Additionally, the three unique atomizers and high-voltage battery allow you to customize the pen according to your personal needs.

The simple and fashionable pen design is another plus, though it would be great if the pen was available in a wider range of colors.

Nevertheless, the Dr. Dabber remains one of the highest-performing dab pens and produces exceptionally flavorful vapor. The main drawback of the pen is its price, or else it would certainly be higher on the list.

#4 Hypnos Zero Wax Vaporizer Pen

Hypnos ZeroPrice: $77.99

Hypnos Zero from Linx vapor, just like most modern vape pens, features a ceramic heating element to ensure smooth flavor and avoid any burnt taste.

The good thing about Hypnos Zero is that its plate heats up rather quickly as compared to most of its competitors.

Also, the heating chamber is very efficient and hardly any part of your concentrate will be wasted.

The heating chamber without any exposed coil not only improves flavor but also makes refilling and cleanup as easy as pie. Since the vape pen has a reinforced ceramic plate, its atomizer has a comparatively long life span.

At a little under 4-inches long, this is one of the smallest vape pens for wax concentrates, yet it’s very powerful and offers four preset temperature levels (low, medium, medium-high, high) to customize your vaping.

The battery is a 650mAh, which takes about two hours to get fully charged. The most commendable thing about the Hypnos vape pen is that it’s made from medical grade components i.e. no plastics, no colors, no fibers.

Considering all the great features of the Hypnos Zero and the fact that it offers nearly the same vaping experience as some of the more expensive counterparts, this month it’s on our 4th spot.

Types of Vape Pens

Basically, there are three main types of vape pens depending on the material you want to vape. It’s good to have some basic knowledge of each type, as it can go a long way in choosing the best pen vaporizer.

  1. Vape Pens for E-liquids (Oil Concentrates)

Oil concentrate for vaping (E-liquids) iconE-liquid vape pens or e-cigarettes are the most common and basic type of vape pens. They consist of a drip tip/mouthpiece, ceramic filter, atomizer, and battery. You have to fill an e-liquid aka e-juice into the atomizer, which is turned into vapor and you can inhale it through the mouthpiece.

The vaping experience depends on the vapor pen as well as the e-liquid. E-liquids come in a wide variety of flavors, from bacon-like flavors to flavorless and everything in between. They usually consist of PG (propylene glycol) VG (vegetable glycerin), artificial flavors and nicotine. Some e-liquids even allow you to choose different levels of nicotine strength i.e. 0% up to 15% or even more. The freedom to choose nicotine level, a variety of flavors and ease of use are the factors that make e-liquid vape pens very popular.

  1. Vape Pens for Dry Herbs

Dry herbs iconFlowers and dry herbs have been used for relaxation as well as medicinal purposes for thousands of years. The popularity of smoking dry herbs is still on the rise, and that’s where dry herb vape pens come in really handy. Dried and ground flowers and herbs are put into the chamber of a vape pen, that turns the herbs into the vapor.

Marijuana is more potent when vaped, so be mindful.

The best thing about dry herb vape pens is that they are very concealable and can fit into your pocket as well as hand, and allow you to vape on dry herbs for therapy, medical marijuana prescribed by a doctor, and even dry leaf tobacco. You can also find multi-purpose vape pens that, in addition to dry herbs, also allow you to vape e-juices and waxy concentrates (Like V2Pro Series 3 ). These vape pens, however, are more expensive, so don’t buy a pen with features that you’ll never use.

  1. Vape pens for Waxes

Wax concentrates for vaping (icon).Waxy concentrates are usually extracted from particular substances and are very potent, so all you need is a small amount. However, loading the waxes can be a little messy if you don’t have much experience. Also, you need a special vape pen that is capable of vaping waxy concentrates such as hash oil – which isn’t legal in most states. Wax vape pens have a special chamber, where you need to dab the material. This is why they are sometimes also called dab pens. You can find a multi function wax pen that also allows you to vape e-liquids and even dry herbs, or just a standalone wax pen that’s more affordable, but can only be used for waxy concentrates.

The rule of thumb is that if you know what type of materials you’ll vape, then get the best vape pen for only those materials, as it will not only offer the best experience but might also save you a few bucks. However, if you vape different types of materials, or you’re unsure about what types of materials you want to vape on, then multi purpose vaporizer pen is the way to go.

Five Tips for Choosing the Best Vape Pen

  • There is a tradeoff between size and battery life. If you want a more portable pen, you’ll have to compromise on battery. If you want to enjoy extended vaping sessions without having to recharge the pen frequently, you’ll have to settle for a bigger, less portable pen.
  • Most of the latest pens can be charged with micro-USB, but some still don’t. Make sure to check out if the pen you’re considering offers this convenience.
  • One important thing that many vapers, and especially beginners, don’t pay attention to is the airflow. The amount of airflow has a significant impact on the overall vaping experience of any pen. For a mouth-to-lung pen, you’ll want a pen that has a tight draw; and for more vapor but slightly less flavor, a pen with a lot of airflow is better.
  • If you enjoy extended vaping sessions, make sure that the pen has a large cartridge and chamber, so you don’t run out of material too quickly.
  • The most important factor, but also most difficult to figure out, is whether or not the pen is worth the price. Read the reviews to make sure that any pen is worth the investment you’re putting in, that it will have the effect you want and last for a long time.

What to Look For in a Good Vape Pen?

Just like with any other product, you need to consider and compare a few of the top items depending on quality, durability, ease of use and value for money. But vape pens are a unique product and you should keep some guidelines in mind when buying one:

  • Legitimacy

Unfortunately, vape pens are very easy to clone, and for new vapers, it’s extremely hard to distinguish a copy from a genuine pen. A clone might cost as much as a real product but will perform very poorly, and can even be dangerous. A little common sense, however, can save you the hassle. The one and only thing you can do to make sure you’re getting a legit vape pen is to buy from reputable retailers and avoid fishy retailers who offer cheap vape pens.

  • Compatibility

We discussed the three different types of vape pens in the previous section. It goes without saying that when shopping for a vape pen, you need to buy one that supports the type of material you prefer. If you want to get a multipurpose vaporizer pen, make sure it best performs with the material that you vape most often. Doing a little research and reading vapor pen reviews will give you a good idea of the pen’s compatibility.

  • Performance

If you get a genuine vape pen, rest assured that you will get decent performance, but there are some vaporizer pens that are very cheap, and you get what you pay for.  Cheaper vape pens take too long to heat up, are very fragile and can even burn the material. When using cheap vapor pen, you get a burnt taste. That’s why we recommend investing in a decent vaporizer, made by a reputable manufacturer, that will give you great flavor and nice throat hits. Some of the vaporizer pens can allow you to vape multiple materials, which we have already discussed.

Depending on how they function, there are two major types of vape pens: conduction style and convection style. The performance of the pen greatly depends on its type. In conduction vape pens, the material comes in direct contact with the heating chamber. This can sometimes result in a burnt taste, when the heating element gets too hot or when there is very little material in the chamber. On the flip, the convection vape pens blow extremely hot air through the material that turns it into vapor. A mesh screen, usually made of glass or metal is used to contain the vaping material. The convection style vape pens usually offer better flavor and taste, however, they can be more expensive and take longer to heat up.

  • Appearance

Vape pens come in all shapes, designs, and colors, from simple pens to extremely stylish ones like the G Pen. While appearance doesn’t have anything to do with the performance of the pen, and some obnoxious looking pens might outperform their much better-looking counterparts, however, some people want to own only elegant gadgets, even vape pens. You will find some outsized pens, but usually, the smaller ones look better, are more elegant and are also concealable. Appearance usually is a matter of personal preference, and it’s up to you what you want but at least don’t buy a pen that you will feel embarrassed to vape in front of your friends. Likewise, buying a pen that looks extremely stylish but performs poorly is nothing but a waste of your hard-earned money.

  • Battery Life

Battery life is a major factor in choosing any electronic device these days. Since you’ll use the vape pen as a portable device, you don’t want the battery to die when you really need a vape. Vape pens that support bigger batteries are also bigger in size, so there’s a tradeoff. Also, vape pens that can be charged via USB are obviously a better choice than the ones that require a unique adapter. Some vape pens also come with a car charger in addition to the wall adapter, which is an added convenience.

  • Chamber Size

The size of the heating chamber determines how long you can vape before having to refill. So, the bigger, the better is true for vape pens, but a bigger chamber usually increases the overall size of the pen. It’s up to you if you want a more concealable, elegant pen or one that needs to be refilled less often.

  • Warranty

The topnotch manufacturers back their products with extremely long warranties. In fact, a long warranty is the biggest indicator of high quality.
