The Arizer Solo 2 vaporizer is an updated version of the classic Arizer Solo portable herb vaporizer. The new Solo II retains the look of the original with an LED panel and three-buttons on the front. Users can set the temperature, as well as change aspects of the vape itself, like the screen brightness and auto shut-off countdown via the LED.

The Solo II uses a ceramic element inside its heating chamber. The kit includes two glass “aroma” tubes. The tubes have bottom-loading material chambers where vapers can add their botanical. When the chamber is full, they insert the bottom-end into the vaporizer’s heating chamber. Vapers use the tube as a mouthpiece, ensuring clean, and pure vapor.

Kit Contents

Portable dry herb vaporizers are famous for their well-stocked kits that carry a plethora of items dedicated to giving users the best vaping experience. The kit for the Arizer Solo 2 vaporizer is no different as it brings everything a vaper needs to keep the device in tip-top shape.

Arizer Solo II: The Build Quality

The Arizer Solo 2 has a bland, utilitarian exterior and comes in two colors, Carbon Black and Mystic Blue.

Its conventional appearance hides a workhorse of a semi-portable vaporizer that uses both convection and conduction-heating, in an apparatus that is very easy-to-use, and maintain. The best part of the Solo 2? The glass “aroma” tubes. These tubes serve three functions:

  • They are where you load your material
  • They are the path through which vapor travels
  • They are the mouthpiece

The glass tubes stick out of the vaporizer’s frame when inserted into the oven. The designers valued the superior quality that the glass tubes provide over a good-looking device, so they made the mouthpieces longer than conventional vaporizers. They made the right choice.

There are two of these tubes included in the Arizer Solo II vaporizer kit, with two different lengths. One is 90mm (3.5 inches), and the other is 110mm (4.3 inches). They are various sizes to give a different vaping experience, as the longer one, cools the vapor down further, giving off a unique taste, while the smaller one delivers a more immediate and intense experience.

The physical dimensions of the Arizer Solo 2 vaporizer make it smaller and more compact than the first Arizer. The Solo II stands at 4.5 inches tall, and 1.75 inches wide, giving it a svelte, and more easily-graspable form factor. The top of the Arizer Solo II features a stainless steel plate, with the heating oven, dead-center, covered by a removable, plastic cap.

The vaporizer’s oven also features stainless steel, as well as ceramic, and what’s different about the Solo II from the first Solo is the airflow. The draw on the original Solo device was restricted, and it was a common review complaint about its performance. The new Solo 2, upon close review of the chamber, has tiny air jets that blow air through the material (convection heating) while also providing for a smoother, less restricted draw.

The new Solo 2 is also supposed to have better battery life than the first one, but it still uses only DC charging. The internal, 3400mAh battery on the Solo II should last about three hours, according to Arizer. There is a power outlet on the back of the device to charge the internal battery, but the Solo II makes use of pass-through charging, so vapers can continue vaping while the battery recharges.

Taking Care of the Arizer Solo 2

As there is no internal material chamber to load, or clean, maintaining, as well as keeping the device in good working order, is hassle-free. The base unit itself should be relatively maintenance-free, except for maybe any loose material that might fall into the vaporizer’s heating chamber.

Arizer’s solution for that tricky problem is to turn over the unit and let the pieces fall where they may (not joking, look it up) or to use a Q-tip with isopropyl alcohol to give a once-over. What will need regular cleaning are the two glass aroma tubes that will get considerable build-up after extended use.

Arizer recommends using the stainless steel tool included in the kit to brush away any residue from the inside. They also suggest the standard, full-immersion bath for the glass tubes in isopropyl alcohol that works best to cut away all the resin build-up that is normal with dry herb vaporizers.

The bath is a good idea as the tubes are long, and only a full dunk in alcohol could get to all those hard-to-reach places. The tubes have a built-in, glass screen to keep material from getting stuck in the central pipe. Arizer also provides metal screens in the kit for use with the tube, but they are not necessary as the screen in the tube does an excellent job.

Working the Arizer Solo II

There is no single power switch on the Solo Arizer II’s exterior, so vapers need to press the up and M (menu) button to turn on the device. The control panel is circular, and features the “up” and “down” buttons on either side of the central “M” button. Once the unit is on, the OLED screen will display a countdown, starting at 6 and count till 0.

This power-on delay keeps the user from accidentally turning on the device. When the countdown finishes, users will see a happy face greet them, and the vaporizer’s internal oven will start heating up to the last programmed setting.

Users should change the setting at this time, as the heat-up process begins. The temperature range on the device is between 122 and 428F. Vapers can change their configuration in increments of one. Pressing the menu button also allows them to change the reading from Celsius to Fahrenheit and vice-versa.

The menu function also allows vapers to change the screen brightness, the length of the auto shut-off timer, and the loudness of the notification pings. Yes, the Arizer uses notification pings to signal when it is turned on, when it turns off, and when the oven has reached the programmed temperature.

The Vape

The tube should be loaded with botanical material before inserting it into the Solo 2 heating chamber. As the device uses convection heating along with conduction, it would be best to pack in, or at least, leave a little room at the bottom of the tank to let the air pass through. Arizer also sells silicone caps for the tubes so a vaper can pre-fill them and then take them on the road.

From being switched on to being ready to vape takes the Arizer Solo II between twenty and thirty seconds. That time refers to the highest temperature, of about 428F. Lower temperatures may take less time. A small heating icon appears on the top left when the device is heating up.

When it gets to its programmed temperature, the notification ping buzzes, signaling that it is ready to vape. Vapers can choose the volume of the ping, or they can turn it off altogether. When the device is ready, vapers need only inhale from the aroma tube. Even when the sound goes off, it’s not a bad idea to let it heat for another few seconds to extract the most from the material.

With the pure-glass heat path and the way the material does not touch any metals or ceramic, the vapor quality is superb. The draw is effortless, and even though the tube does not use a shotgun valve to clear the stem of vapor, it does not need it. Inhaling all the produced vapor is not a challenge at all.

Pulling on the tube for a long time will result in a bigger hit, obviously, while the flavor also remains on point. Also, as there is little to no heat transfer to the glass tubes, it does not get too hot to handle. Taking short hits is also an option. Despite it being able to reach 428F, the exterior maintains its cool, so to speak, even at that high temperature.

Using the Arizer Solo 2 on a full battery guarantees up to three hours of continuous vaping. The temperature also plays a role, but even at high temperatures, the Solo II won’t give out so fast. Three hours is also the amount of time it takes to recharge fully, so be prepared for that. But thanks to the pass-through feature, vapers don’t have to wait that long to take a hit.

When the device is plugged in, users need only press one of the control panel buttons to enable the pass-through feature. A small plug icon shows up on the OLED to indicate the current mode. The Arizer Solo 2 has an auto shut-off feature, which is also user-adjustable and can be set for anywhere between a few seconds to ten minutes.

Similar Competitors on the Market

The Khan Vaporizer

The Khan dry herb vaporizer from Mig Vapor is a hand-held, portable device with an all-glass stem/mouthpiece and an internal 2200mAh battery. The device has a 14mm (0.55 inches) diameter chamber that can hold around half-a-gram.

The Khan is top-loading, and vapers then insert the glass cap/mouthpiece over the oven to vape. There is a small LED display on the bottom half of the unit that lets vapers set their preferred temperature via one-button controls. The Khan has a temperature range of between 302F-464F.

The DaVinci IQ

The DaVinci IQ is a high-tech, dry-herb, and concentrates vaporizer that features a bottom-loading, all-ceramic zirconia heating chamber. The vapor path is isolated, and it is also all-ceramic zirconia. The IQ also features a removable 18650 cell as its power source, so vapers can always insert a fresh battery if they run out of power.

DaVinci MIQRO brown

There is a three-button control configuration on the device’s side that lets users select their ideal temperature or working mode. The DaVinci IQ has a temperature range of between 250F and 430F. It also has a Bluetooth connection and can work with a downloadable app that unlocks other features of the IQ.

This Is The End

The Arizer Solo 2 is a semi-portable device, as it can fit into a bag or pocket, but it is not an on-the-go vape like the Khan or even the Pax 3. It only has DC wall charging, so that ties it to the home mostly.

The outer shell of the device is very rugged, and there are no operating problems. The Solo II is excellent for home-vaping, as it has incredible battery life, convection, and conduction heating, as well as producing high-quality vapor. It is not as futuristic-looking or stylish as a Pax 3 or IQ, but the main feature of the Arizer Solo 2 is its fantastic performance.
