Despite the fact of its simplicity, The Smok’s Vape Pen 22 is for beginners. However, the setup is excellent and substantial for advanced vapers with more expertise, with complete sub-ohm vaping features from a subtle product.
The current fad in the vaping community for the past two years is to produce starter kits, which are an all-in-one solution for vaping needs of everyone.

Introducing the Smok Vape Pen 22

The SMOK Vape Pen 22 is one such product, featuring an eGo style battery with a diameter of 22mm and 165mAh capacity. Therefore, creates a fixed figure of voltage according to the battery left.
The difference is at the base of the tank, which is completely sealed. While the inside is the cylindrical battery, that isn’t like the typical eGo battery. The operation is simple- press the fire button to turn the device on or off, then press and hold the button again to vape. It is incredibly easy and safe, with all the protection requirements built-in the regulating chip. Can you imagine a simpler way to vape?

What’s in the box?

    The Vape Pen 22 (0.30-ohm coil pre-installed)
    An extra 0.30-ohm coilhead
    A USB charging cable
    A silicone vape band

I already noticed one con; Smok didn’t provide an extra glass tank for the device. Sure, the vape band might offer a bit of protection, but if you accidentally drop the device, the glass will break. So it would have been nice to have an extra glass tank handy to have some peace of mind.

Design and Build Quality

Design

The Smok Vape Pen 22 is a nice-looking device. It looks just like a tube mod, but the tank is a part of the mod itself if you look closely. The airflow and the base where you screw on the coil heads are on top of the device. The only removable parts are the glass tank and the top cap. It is pretty ingenious because it shortens the device even further.

SMOK Vape Pen 22 desktop

Like Smok’s other products, the Vape Pen 22 also has a nice, durable finish. I have been using the matte black variant, and I must say, the finish has a nice texture and helps make it easier to hold the mod.

Build Quality

The Smok Vape Pen 22 is actually pretty solid. The entire thing is made of stainless steel, so it is pretty durable, and the finish can withstand a couple of hits without even chipping. The built-in battery is securely held in place, and there isn’t even the slightest sign of rattling when you shake the mod. The firing button is also nice and rounded, but it is large enough and protrudes just a bit, so it is easy to find and operate.

The built-in tank also works as advertised, and if the top cap is screwed securely on the mod, the tank will not leak whatsoever. You can leave the mod on its side overnight, and it will not leak, so you can safely put it in your purse and your pocket without any fear of any juice leaking out and ruining your stuff.

Why is SMOK Vape Pen 22 leaking?

There could be many reasons why the SMOK Vape Pen 22 is leaking, but it is usually attached from the tank or atomizer. Check to see if your airflow vents are closed or any cracks in the glass section of your tank.

The Replacement Coils

The Smok Vape Pen is primarily a sub-ohm tank, which means it does not come with an RBA base. Therefore, the only way you can use them is to install premade coils. Unfortunately, you can’t use other Smok coil heads on the Vape Pen as it has its own proprietary coils.

The Smok Vape Pen 22 coils come in two variants, the 0.3-ohm dual-core and the 0.4-ohm quad-core. Both coil heads are rated for 20 watts to 50 watts, but this information is pretty moot because the Smok Vape Pen 22 does not allow wattage control; the mod will fire at full voltage when fully charged, and once you have been using the device for some time, you will notice the voltage drop as well.

The coils do perform quite well. They produce quite a lot of vapor for such a small device, and the flavor you can get out of them is pretty nice.

How Long do SMOK Vape Pen 22 coils last?

SMOK Vape Pen 22 coils can last for anywhere between a few days to a week, depending on the e-juice being used and the frequency a user vapes. More sweetened e-juice will cause the coil to be clogged and affect the cotton wicks faster, so try to use unsweetened e-juices or e-juices without any additives.

What coils fit SMOK Vape Pen 22?

The SMOK Vape Pen 22 comes with two types of coils, a single 0.3ohm Dual Core coil and a 0.15ohm that is a mesh-style coil better suited for higher VG e-juices. There is also an optional strip-style coil that produces greater vapor without sacrificing on flavor that is also rated at 0.15ohms.

Performance

Smok Vape Pen 22 Kit

Currently, the only types of coils available are the 0.3-ohm coils which come with the Vape Pen. They offer a strong vape which frankly seems more appropriate for advanced vapers than beginners. However, the vapor is quite broad and potent, and it may be overwhelming for first-time users.

The mechanism involved in the vaporizers has changed significantly since the times of the 2.3-volt eGo battery. Which also had a 510 tube atomizer. The LiPo battery in the SMOK Vape Pen 22 does a decent job of efficiently giving sufficient power to the atomizer head. The vapor production falls somewhere in the middle; the clouds will not win you any awards or first place in contests, but it isn’t wispy and thin either. It is just right.

Flavor

On the other hand, the taste is hands down one of the best tastings that we’ve had from a starter kit. Honestly, if there is any doubt about the greatness of this vaporizer, that the flavor puts it over the top.

As I said in the previous section, the taste is very impressive. If there is any doubt in your mind regarding this vaporizer, the flavor alone is testimony enough to its greatness. It certainly is one of the most amazing flavors that we had from a vape pen kit.

Writing a neutral review; therefore, we must say that this vape pen finishes a lot of juice quickly. But if you are a “vape junkie,” then you must already be familiar with this trait found in Smok’s vape tanks.

Maintenance

Before starting your vaping session, you’ll have to attach one of the two coil heads. Then screw the glass tank in place, fill it up with juice and seal it by screwing on the cap. Whenever you need to refill, just unscrew the cap and pour ejuice inside once again. Be mindful of the fact that the first time you fill the tank with juice. You let it stay still for a couple of minutes so that the liquid can absorb into the coil head.

smok vape pen 22 image

This entire process is mess-free and straightforward, unlike some of the vape pens available currently on the market. Taking this product apart for cleaning and then reassembling it is very easy and hassle-free.

Battery

The 1650 mAh battery lasts almost through a whole day of vaping. When it reaches 3.3V, you get an alert that you need to recharge through the blinking of the LED light. Thankfully, it only takes two hours to recharge, so you don’t have to wait long before getting your next fix.

How to open SMOK Vape Pen 22 battery?

There is no way to “open” a SMOK Vape Pen 22 battery as it is an enclosed device that uses a 510-connection for users to attach a tank or atomizer. Therefore, attempting to open the casing of the battery is dangerous and not recommended.

Portability

Feel free to carry Smok’s Vape Pen 22 wherever you like. The open design makes it portable and undetectable in public. The design is also minimalistic, which gives it a sophisticated look. Still, it is a beautiful and sturdy product with no components hanging from it. The only problem is recharging on the go, for which you may need separate items as the battery does drain quickly (lasts a day, however.)

What is the Most Recent SMOK Vape?

Two of the most recent SMOK vapes are the SMOK Nord 50W device and the SMOK Thiner. The Nord is the continuation of the popular Nord series of pod vapes that comes with more power and an OLED to regulate power. At the same time, the Thiner is also a pod vape with a unique, card-like shape that is excellent for portability and discreet vaping.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Compact design
  • The flavor and vape production is above average
  • Ergonomic and easy to use
  • When completely installed, the device is virtually leak-proof

Cons

  • The coilhead comes off with the top cap and causes the juice to spill all over the mod

Our Verdict

For those of you who are thinking about immediately upgrading from smoking to vaping, this kit is way too powerful for a new vaper to handle. Therefore, we cannot recommend it. It looks small and harmless but packs quite a punch.

On the other hand, the SMOK Vape Pen 22 by Smok is excellent for intermediate and expert beginners who are looking for a change of clouds and flavor. The pros easily outweigh any cons. The flavor was extreme and addictive, and the airflow results in some of the largest clouds ever.

I had kine for about 4 months. The power button started acting screwy and kept getting stuck. Month 4, I turned it off and plugged it in to charge. Within 5 minutes, smoke was rolling out of the housing. I unplugged it and it was too hot to touch, so I had to wrap it in something to get it out of my house. It appears the switch may have been faulty. The coil overheated and melted the mouthpiece, shattered the glass, and burnt the paint off the pen.

I just bought the Smok Pen 22 and had serious problems with leakage through the air vents. I noticed that the coil sealing ring was not very good, so I used sealing tape to seal the coil thread, which resolved the leak quite satisfactorily.

I have just bought the smok 22 as a first time vape in replacement for smoking. I find it great as a first timer, but I was a heavy tobacco smoker. The con of the top cap coming off, I don’t know if the design has changed but on mine the drip tip unscrews leaving the top cap in place and there are 2 semi circular slits under the drip tip to fill up from. Maybe it’s something smok have addressed or I just discovered it by accident.

I have had two now and the button gets stuck! On both because of the oil leakage. I tried really hard with the second one to make sure when I changed the coil, that no oil leaked on the button. However, it still leaked through the air holes. And Still stuck. Not to mention the guy at the store said there was an 8 second shut off. In the case for both vapes it did not shut off and the entire thing got so hot it burned my hand. I had to throw it because I was afraid it would blow up. It was so hot it burned the floor and melted the laminate tile. I hate big bulky vapes so that is why i specifically chose the 22 pen. RRRRRRR. Feel stupid because the guy in the store even told me they were no good. Shame on me.

    Coupla tricks:
    1. avoid the single con on this review by either emptying the tank or keeping the black cap on and taking off the glass/cap holder and coil upside down. For emptying, I have a small, squishy bottle (presumably used for henna) with a long tip that gets in and I can suck the juice out.
    2. I found that if I’m trying to vape kinda heavy, I’ll cover the air intakes on the sides and suck from the mouthpiece lightly, it helps draw the juice into the wick. I do this every couple of hits. I’ve never had it spit from this but if you do, you pulled too hard with the air intake covered.

Ive had my vape 22 pen almost a month. You just remove the drop top/mouth piece to fill the tank the rest stays securely in place. But, mine started seeping liquid around the bottom of the glass. I’ve changed the coil, and replaced the band, still seeps liquid. Anyone else have this prb, and what it could be? Glass isn’t broken.

I bought the Vape Pen 22, as pretty as the LED light and nice design is, this Vape pen does leak when I fill it up and leave it to stand and I charged it for 3 hours and it lasted only a couple of hours before I had to recharge it so not great to be honest

I’m having a tough time with that burnt taste as well. I change the coil and it’s great again, but I go through the coils after like a couple of days. I’m wondering if the coils are just crappy and the wires burn up too fast. IDK, I really like it as a back up and I don’t have any other problems with it, just that horrible burnt taste! I’m going to buy a different type of coil and see what happens.

I LOVE my vape pen. Had it for about a minth now and have used it everyday quite a but. Easy to use. I love the vape smoke it produces. I like the light. Very portable and reliable for me. Tells me when i need a ne coil. Its almost needs a replacement but not yet. Its is nice to look at and the tank hilds a lot of juice which is a plus for me. I really love it. I would recomand it for anyone to use although for beginners my be a little rough as it has a little punch to it. But overall will be buying another just to have!

DANGEROUS!!!!! Just nearly set my bag on fire while in a car. The problem is the button is too easy to press, had this a few times, vape is on my bag, slightest pressure sets it off. Now in pieces in my kitchen bin. Only real damage a ruined bag and slightly burned fingers, but could have been a whole lot worse

I loved how simple it was to assemble and the clouds and intensity of flavor. However, it is always hot. It leaks. The coil doesn’t seem to last. I just got mine 2 days ago and it’s already tasting burnt. I don’t like the fact that I don’t have spare glass.

Is there any way to troubleshoot these issues?

I got mine 2 week’s ago, and the coil has constantly flooded along with it leaking through the air holes, and here and there I’ll take a hit and the button gets jammed, and then i have to push the button around while praying to god the thing doesn’t explode in my hand. I’mdefinitely getting a different mod, this one is to dangerous.

    Doesn’t leak?
    AHAHAHA!
This thing leaks like crazy through the air intakes, and yet somehow you get dry hits…wtf? This usually happens after you take the top off to refill, will unscrewing it, youll see air bubbles coming from the coil, that then fills with juice and itll start leaking like crazy, and like I ssid, you’ll STILL get dry hits. This thing is a piece of crap .
Don’t even get me started on the V8

  • Sandy Morgan

    August 10, 2018 at 9:54 pm

Counting the ones I purchased and the replacements when I returned them, I’ve been through five. All leaked. One takes more than 24 hours to charge and only holds the charge for a few hours. After the fifth, and the guy at the store telling me that’s what they use for taste testing and they have no problem with them, I thought it must be me. When I came online and saw how many others have the same problems, I was angry. I think they use/push them as a scam to sell more juice since at least 1/3 of my juice is on my hands, my clothes, my furniture . . . One coil will last a week, the next will last a day and I use them the same.

Hi guys! Having an issue with my vape 22 as well… and reading comments it hasn’t happened to anyone yet but mine leaks from the button (power on, shut off) really WEIRD. (and not in a hot car-in A/C upright!) It will also leak from the breather holes if (when I am filling it up) IF put juice into it almost to the top of the tank. But, it is otherwise really nice (only 2 months old) no issues leaving it to charge overnight (red charging light shuts off when it’s done charging) or overheating issues. Flavor is amazing. I have noticed that when in a hot vehicle it will leak as well. Customer service is BS b/c I purchased it on ebay (for a screaming deal!) I can’t upload the receipt to start the return/replacement process. Also b/c the seller is no longer selling that item, I cant contact him (item # doesn’t match up ARRG) I also have the Baby Beast from Smok and have been happier with that, but this unit is nice and light, great for short trips in a vehicle. Never in my pocket, it gets set down wherever I go so no leakage or turning on in my pocket. Hope this helps others! And you all have a great week!

    July 2, 2018 at 5:30 am

Anyone who is having issues with batteries is leaving it plugged in too long, thats an issue with almost every vape, you cant just leave it plugged in all night while you sleep, not a healthy habit for most electronics.

  • Granger Barnett

    June 21, 2018 at 4:41 am

Not sure why people aren’t having the same issues I am with their 22’s; BUT; I’m in the process of writing to civil aviation regarding the dangers of these units atm (& contacting manufacturer also)

“Just today” I discovered ANOTHER fault with one of my pens! Of the last 6 I have received; 4 have been faulty (this is now no.5).
Apart from leaking issues from the breather holes, which, are way too common and messy. I’ve also had problems with my smok pens “turning on whilst in my pocket” which; first drew my attention to the malfunctioning of the”5 quick presses for on & off” & showing these pens have some serious safety concerns caused by the button just being held? I’ve struck this problem with 2 pens over the last year or so, BUT….
A new and more serious issue with these pens is “overheating”! I know different machines can get “warm”… but; Smok pens can get to a VERY high temperature when used for even a few minutes. This latest pen (which is another replacement) has only been used a few times over the past 2 weeks (I always keep spares) but; I not only noticed it was getting “RED HOT” when used with only 5-6 puffs for approx 3-4 second each time, BUT… I just ran a test today by turning it ON and just “held it in my hand…NO pushing the button/vaping” and; within 1-2 minutes (max) the heat of the unit got “Too hot to hold”??? I’m ‘assuming’ the juice is shorting the battery?(no expert) but this is the worst one yet that i have struck? Plenty of my others also get super hot during standard use, but this is just from being turned on AND if ‘left on’!
Has anyone else had this or these problems (heat related, and turning on by just constant pressure on button) and as mentioned, I believe they (and ‘ALL’ makes of Mods) need to be investigated further, especially; when stowed in luggage on a plane!
Sorry to sound negative, but fire is the last thing you want on a plane!

    • Nicky

      July 15, 2018 at 10:13 am

I’ve had 2 Smok 22’s I have been using for almost 2 years, I use one while the other is charging. I haven’t experienced any of the problems you’ve described.

Plus you’re not supposed to put them in with luggage in the hold. When I have been on a plane (I have checked the airlines website regarding vaping and it said to empty the tank else it may leak because the liquid can expand due to cabin pressure and to take them on board with you either in hand luggage or on your person.) I just had mine in my pocket. I haven’t experienced mine turning itself on though! My vape juice I had to put in a plastic sealable bag as per toiletries.

They suck used it three days in the coil dries out even with the juice in it .hit it like four or five times and dries out the coil doesn’t take the juice up.Have to unscrew the lid for it to go down and then leaks all the time .would never buy something like this again .

    • morty

      June 20, 2018 at 8:26 pm

Agree with u! The coil doesn’t have a good juice flow into cotton. Have to unscrew top to let the juice suck into cotton again and again

  • Aaron

    June 18, 2018 at 6:29 pm

First comment about your “con” list is correct – “The coilhead comes off with the top cap and causes the juice to spill all over the mod.”

There is no note about this in the instructions, but the mouthpiece comes off separately. They should have kept them separate in the packaging so we wouldn’t think it’s one piece. Makes it infinitely easier to fill the tank without loosening the top (that usually loosens the coil).

  • Hailey

    June 2, 2018 at 8:09 pm

I agree that the coil comes out when you unscrew to fill, but I found it was easier to unscrew the drip tip instead of the whole top to refill. Glass was hard to find if my regular shop was out of stock. I once went to 3 different vape shops to find glass, and even then they only had one piece left in the store.

What is the best vg mix is great for the smok 22 pen.. I love mine the only problem I have is it leaks sometimes and it sometimes taste burnt for some reason. I just started vaping again and the first was a smok mod at 85 watts (don’t know the name) this is a great buy..

Great when I first got it a few months ago…but that’s all it lasts for.
    -Glass breaks easily
    -Charger broken
-Doesn’t charge properly so only lasts a few hours now
    -Occasionally leaks
Spend more money on a better model…I wish I did!

I hate this thing. Battery is always weak. Can’t change the coil coz it is stuck and won’t come out. Can’t say it’s my fault because this is my first coil change. The instructions are vague and GOOD LUCK getting anyone from customer service. Another rip off e cigarette. No more. Going back to regular cigarettes. Piece of junk.

      June 21, 2018 at 4:48 am

Hey Paul, mate I’ve been getting ALOT of major issues with my smoks (just submitted a review on safety concerns), but regarding the “Coil problem”, I’ve had it happen a few times (only big issue if you don’t notice it happening while opening to refill) but FYI, if you notice the problem early enough, re tighten it, turn the pen “upside down” and undo the top a 1/4 or 1/2 turn and… ALL GOOD?. No idea why, but the coil doesn’t unscrew when upside down.
      Cheers eh

Does the Vape 20 to have an adjustment because every time I pump on it the tip gets real hot and you gag on the smoke it’s not comfortable it’s not soothing and smooth and cool is there something wrong with my system is there anyway that I can adjust the power to make it weaker

    • Granger Barnett

      June 21, 2018 at 4:56 am

Peter… you’re problem is not uncommon “These days”… they used to be fantastic apart from leaking a bit, but who ever is making them now, or the quality control is GONE TOTALLY.
The heat problem is now a common and major issue (& dangerous) and; the ‘uncomfortable vape/burn taste’ is also a new problem I’ve found. NO DOUBT their is a serious manufacturing problem with therm at the moment.
Pity, cause I’ve used them since i started vaping!

Peter, I felt the same way when I used the Vape Pen 22 for the first time, and I already own quite a few devices. However, let me say that the Smok Vape Pen 22 is not a starter kit. I would not recommend it for beginners. Even for me it feels just too powerful. The amount of vapour is overwhelming. I cannot use it in public or in certain places. I have it only for some occasions. This is not an all-day vape or something that you can take everywhere (not because of its size, which is very small, but because of the power it puts out). Having vaped for almost 4 years, and having used many starter and intermediate devices, I would recommend an Innokin T20, T18, T20-S, or a Joyetech EGO AIO for a beginner.

So far so good. Make sure to screw coil in TIGHT so cap doesnt get stuck and you end up unscrewing the coil woth the cap and spill juice trough the air flow. As log as you make sure of that ^ each coil change, and be mindful of how you utilize the battery life, this vape should last you far too long, as well as always provide large clouds and great flavor. Also, i WOULD recommend this to a vape newbie AND the everyday master vaper. Because this thing is cheap as h*ll, lasts forever, charges in 2 hours, theres just no mod that costs more than 50$ that can beat the pros of this smok vape pen 22. Mine costs 25$ in a shop, coils are 5/6$ If you’re new to vaping, at first the amount will trip you out, but soon you’ll be used to it. And hardcore vapers out there, you’ll be amazed how much cloud this cheap *ss pen produces. Ill be darned if i buy an actual mod within the next year.

The mouth piece screws off separately to the top cap so you don’t have to unscrew it all and have the coil unscrew with it.

I just picked up a Vape Pen 22 as a backup device. I like the design and ease of use. Flavor production of my favorite juice is spot on. Since it’s a backup, I don’t mind that it’s not adjustable and lacking the high-end features of my main mod. As far as it being too advanced for a beginner, I would disagree. Operation and maintenance is simple.

Two broken glasses, two fried batteries, two entire units worthless in just over three months. Back to my Marlboro MarkXl until I buy something different

Sounds like you’re not quite ready for vaping. That’s ok. Go to a good shop and get some help. Of course, broken glass means you’re just gonna have to not break it. Vape bands help. The type of batteries used can be killed of you don’t recharge when it warns you. That a simple reality of INR/NCR batteries. I suppose that’s why he didn’t recommend it for beginners. If you drain the battery completely, especially multiple times, it takes special equipment to bring it back to life.

Hey Shelley, any problems with overheating or turning on by itself? If you have, please send me a text. I like these pens for size and adequate for me to reduce my cigarette usage, BUT, the quality and problems weigh these units had gone from a 9/10 to a 1/10 in past 6+months or so. Cheers

Cons is wrong. Take the drip tip off to refill and the coil and tank remain. With the tip off it can spill but replace the tip and you’re good to go

Correct, Just remove the drip tip, it looks like it doesn’t unscrew, but it does. I was following all the videos, WRONGLY, and even the shop owner was wrong.

I am not happy with this product, worked for a week maybe two.

Won’t charge even if left charging over night. Pull it in red led comes on the goes out.

It’s a total waste of money store won’t even refund.
