One of the problems with vaporizers is that some are compatible with coils while others only use cartridges.

Why not make one that can work with both?

That is what Lookah did. They created a 510 vaporizer that can vape both with no trouble. Additionally, this vape is well-made, portable, and not too expensive.

Lookah Snail Review: First Impressions

Lookah Snail vaporizer review

First, the Snail comes in a very nice-looking package. And inside are two additional boxes. One box has the vaporizer, and the second has the coils. They come well protected, so they should not arrive damaged.

There are four coils in the second box: a dual-core rod, flat ceramic, recessed ceramic, and ceramic coil with an air hole.

It can vape a cart, but there is no cart in here. A cartridge would have been nice, but Lookah does not appear to sell a pre-loaded cart. Maybe they should start making them. Everyone would be in for a real treat if the cart was half as good as their vapes.

Internal Build and Design Quality

The battery portion of the vaporizer feels very solid and well made. Also, vapers are going to love how compact it is. It can fit anywhere. Pockets, backpacks, purses, anywhere!

The connection between the coils/carts and the connection is excellent too. No wiggling or any other signs of potential problems.

Judging by appearances, this vape should be classified as a portable desktop vaporizer. It has a flat bottom so that it stands upright on a flat surface. So, take it to a park or friend’s house, light it up and pass it around, then put it on a table until it is needed again.

That is not to say it cannot be vaped anywhere. It can be. But when vaping in public, it is better to have something more inconspicuous, like a vape pen.

Lookah Snail Voltage Settings

The Lookah Snail has three voltage settings: 3.2, 3.6, and 4.2 volts. The user can cycle through all the settings using the firing button. More on that below in the “how-to” section.

Performance and Vapor Quality

There is nothing wrong with the device or the coils when it comes to performance. Some of the coils perform better than others, though.

The only problem people might have with the coils is applying the dab. It can be very easy to make the mistake of putting the dab on the side of the wall of the coil instead of on the coil itself. So, if vaping and not getting any hits, make sure the concentrate is sitting directly on the coil.

Starting from worst to first:

  • Ceramic Coil with Airflow: Meh. The vapor quality was not all that great, but there is a bit of flavor coming off the coils.
  • Ceramic Recessed Bottom: This one is a bit more impressive. The flavor is on par with the airflow coil, but the vapor is better.
  • Flat Ceramic: This one is almost the best but not quite. Very high vapor production, and the flavor really kicks off.
  • Dual Rod Coil: These coils are the best in any device. The vapor is very warm at 3.6 and 4.2 volts, and the hits are very intense.

The voltage settings are another factor in determining the quality of the vaping session. At 3.2 volts, there is not a lot of vapor, but the flavor is pretty good. It gets better at 3.6 volts, but at 4.2 volts, the vapor and flavor are phenomenal.

Lookah Snail Battery

It was surprising to see how long the battery lasted for such a small device. It went for 38 sessions before it needed to be recharged. That is a pretty good run for a 350 mah battery.

Battery life depends on many factors, like how deep the drags are, the cartridge, and the settings, but everyone should be able to get 30 to 40 draws off this device before it needs to be recharged.

The LED light will give a low power alert when the battery is low and then shut down. The battery is charged by a USB port at 0.5 amps.

Additionally, the battery has all the usual safety settings. Overtime, short circuit, overwattage, and overcharge protection. There should be no danger to the vaper, thanks to these safety features.

When the battery needs to be recharged, the LED light will blink ten times in succession. It glows red while it is being recharged. When the charge cycle is complete, it glows green.

Wax Cartridge Compatibility

The Lookah Snail is 510 threaded, so it should work with a standard wax cart. Obviously, that is good news since the package does not come with a wax cartridge.

How to Use a Lookah Snail Vape

Follow these steps to get started:

  • Attach the coil or wax cartridge to the connection and attach the mouthpiece.
  • Apply the dab to the coil if a coil is being used. Be careful to apply the dab to the coil instead of the wall, or else the material will not vaporize.
  • Click the firing button five times to turn the device on and then press it three more times to choose the voltage setting.
  • Hold the firing button down and inhale from the mouthpiece.

How Do You Clean a Lookah Snail?

These products do not require a lot of cleaning. The most the owner will have to do is wipe down the connection every so often to make sure nothing is blocking it.

Cleaning the coils will be tough because they are so small. They should last a long time, but they need to be replaced if the flavor starts getting progressively worse. However, replacing them should not be a problem because they are not expensive. Just $29.99 for a new set.

How Do You Change Lookah Snail Coils?

Easy.

  1. First, choose a coil and screw it into the connection, and connect the mouthpiece.
  2. To change them, remove the mouthpiece and then remove the coil.
  3. Use gloves when changing the coils because they get very hot. It is very easy to burn fingers fiddling around with this thing.

Competing Products

Lookah Snail vs Kandypens Special-K

kandypens special k review

The Special-K from KandyPens is one of the traditional-style vape pens. It looks like an actual ink pen, making it much more stealthy than the Snail. But the primary difference between these vapes is that the Special-K uses only a cart, while the Snail uses coils and is cart compatible.

Another difference is the price. The Special-K is around twenty dollars more expensive.

Overall, both are excellent vaporizers. But vapers who want to save money and have something compatible with a cart and coils should go with the Snail. People who want something stealthy should buy the Special-K.

Lookah Snail vs Yocan Evolve Vaporizer

Yocan Evolve desktop

The Yocan Evolve is another one of those pen-style products, and it offers an outstanding vaping experience. It is small and easy to transport and carry, and it uses dual rod quartz coils that produce very high levels of flavor and vapor.

The only problem with these products is that the battery life is not as good as the Snail’s. However, it is also an excellent option for people wanting something slightly more portable and stealthy than the Snail.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can You Put a Cart in a Lookah?

Yes. The Lookah is 510 compatible, and it can accommodate any 510 wax or oil cartridge.

  • Why Is My Lookah Snail Blinking Yellow?

If the light flashes yellow five times, there is an open circuit. In that case, try replacing the coil and seeing if that solves the problem. If not, contact Lookah’s customer service team and see if they can help.

If the yellow light flashes ten times, there is a short circuit. Again, try replacing the coil and see if that solves the problem. If not, contact Lookah’s customer service team.

Pros&Cons

The Positives

  • Excellent flavor and vapor
  • Portable and compact design
  • Works with carts and coils
  • Affordable Price
  • Solid battery life

The Negatives

  • The airflow ceramic coil needs improvement

Final Thoughts About the Lookah Snail Wax Kit Review

The Lookah Snail is an excellent portable desktop vaporizer, but it is not something to be vaped on the go because it is not a vape pen. But, again, this is something that can be packed up in a hurry and taken somewhere without causing inconvenience.

The only real con is that the ceramic airflow coil is not all it can be. But the other three coils, especially the dual rod coil, do an outstanding job of getting as much flavor and vapor from the dab as possible.

These vaporizers definitely deserve high marks and are well worth the money. Please comment below if you have a strong opinion about this portable vape.
