KandyPens comes at us with a dry herb vaporizer that stylistically tones it down when compared to some of KandyPens zanier, flashier models. The KandyPens Miva is a handheld dry herb vaporizer with ceramic over inside the device and a powerful 2200 mAh, Li-ion battery.

There is an OLED display on the Miva that allows for precise temperature controls. The KandyPens Miva utilizes a combination convection/conduction heating chamber to provide optimal conditions for vaping your materials.

What’s Inside

KandyPens always knocks it out of the park when it comes to its packaging and the KandyPens Miva, while dour in its appearance, still comes in a fashionable, trendy box.

Here’s what you’ll find inside:

  • One KandyPens Miva vaporizer
  • One pre-installed plastic mouthpiece
  • One separate glass mouthpiece
  • Four replacement silicone rings
  • One cleaning brush
  • One packing tool
  • Micro USB charging cable
  • Instruction manual

First Impressions

While KandyPens may have put away their bedazzler when it came time to design this one, they certainly didn’t put away their creativity when creating the technical components of the Miva. There is a combination convection/conduction over that heats your materials to a perfect temperature thanks to the precise temperature control located on the face of the device.

The KandyPens Miva is made from a lightweight plastic that is not ideal, but it does help the Miva become lightweight and portable, while not guaranteeing its durability. There are three air-vents alongside the device that provides air for the conduction heating chamber.

The OLED display is easy to use, and it features only three buttons: the power button and the two selector buttons. The temperature range on the Miva is between 300F-435 F and it heats up relatively quickly; only a minute or so before it reaches optimal temperature. Other than that, there’s not much to mention.

There is the optional glass mouthpiece that does come in handy. If you are weary of inhaling hot vapor from a direct hit device like the KandyPens Miva that has its factory-installed mouthpiece directly above the oven, then the glass mouthpiece will be for you.

Using the KandyPens Miva

The KandyPens Miva is a simple, straightforward device. The mouthpiece comes off easily enough, but not so easy that it comes off by itself. Underneath the mouthpiece, you’ll find the ceramic heating chamber. The chamber was not so huge, but then again, if you worry about sacrificing too much material for one session (a legitimate concern) then a smaller chamber would do you right.

I have found that chamber size has recently become another thing I look for when reviewing dry herb vaporizers. Unlike e-juice pens and vapes, dry herb vaporizers, and even wax vaporizers for that matter don’t have to worry so much about quantity levels.

But given the fact that your material can sometimes be in short supply, you can appreciate a device that allows you to get a quality vape without literally vaporizing your entire supply.

A good-sized chamber, made from quality materials with precise temperature controls (all of which the KandyPens Miva has) should be a good combination to ensure a worthwhile vaping experience.

You load the chamber snugly, meaning to pack it but not so much that you end up restricting the airflow. You then place the mouthpiece back into place and turn the device on by clicking the power button five times.

Vaping Experience

I used the plastic mouthpiece first and then switched it out for the glass mouthpiece for later sessions. I set the temperature to an even 350F, to begin with, and then went up from there. After a short wait time, I pulled on the mouthpiece and found easy, direct hits by drawing for at least five seconds.

The vapor stream coming out of me lasted for at least another five seconds. When I started hovering around the 400F, I decided to swap out the plastic mouthpiece with the glass one, and I immediately noted a difference in taste, heat, and ease of pull.

The glass mouthpiece fits perfectly above the chamber, and the extended vapor path meant the vapor was allowed to cool before I inhaled, and that made a huge difference in the end when it came to vapor quality.

Comparing the Device

The only other device I could think of to compare to the Miva is the G-Pen Elite from Grenco Science. They are both portable, dry herb devices from two top manufacturers with temperature control settings and an LED display.

The G-Pen Elite’s chamber size, now that I think about it was a little larger than the Miva, so while some might think that a positive, I was still sticking to my belief in the smaller chamber to preserve or at least use your material more efficiently.

I think, however, that in the end, I’ll have to give it to the Miva for the handy glass mouthpiece attachment that saved the day. The G-Pen Elite did have some issues with overheating, and those were only solved by lowering the temperature of the device.

While I prefer the mouthpiece directly over the chamber, it can get hot on some devices, the simple addition of a glass mouthpiece killed two burns with one stone.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Size/Compactness
  • Power
  • Glass Mouthpiece

Cons

  • Price

Size/Compactness

The Miva is a very portable device. Although if you do forget your glass mouthpiece, you’ll be struck by hot vapor all day, so do remember to pack the mouthpiece when you go out. The KandyPens Miva is made of mid-range quality materials, so breakage might be an issue if you are not careful with it.

Price

The Miva is a powerful, well-performing device, and KandyPens is a top-shelf brand, so a high price point is something to be expected. KandyPens does offer a lifetime warranty on the Miva, so there’s that. But a more economical price point, given that the Miva doesn’t fit into KandyPens proclivity for flashiness and luxury, would have made the Miva more attractive.

Power

Some devices boast of fast-heating times but that usually leads to combustion and nasty, dry hits. I appreciate a device that knows how to use its power sparingly and efficiently, which the KandyPens Miva does in style, with its precise temperature controls.

Glass Mouthpiece

For all the reasons I mentioned before, the glass mouthpiece was a winner in my book, not only because it added to the overall vaping experience, but it was an insight into how much KandyPens pays attention to details.

Overall

I think the KandyPens Miva is helped by the fact that it comes from KandyPens, which is a real leader in the vaping world. Because of my high expectations with a device from KandyPens, I did put the Miva through the paces to truly test its capabilities and I was not let down.

The Miva performs solidly, every time. The temperature controls ensure quality vapor production, the ceramic chamber provides for even heating and the glass mouthpiece is the ideal vessel to deliver clean and cool vapor.

My way of understanding the significance of vaping came not only through the disruption of smoking but its effects on society as a whole. Now I bring people to vaping and bring vaping to people. I love using new gear, writing in-depth reviews and generally nerding out about vaping to like-minded people.
