Atmos: Tyga x Shine Pillar vs. Vicod 5G 2nd Generation Vaporizer
The Atmos family counts so many members that it is not rare that we compare some of them together. This time again, we decided to see how the Atmos Tyga x Shine Pillar compares with the Vicod 5G 2nd Generation Vaporizer.
Both vaporizers have pretty similar features and things in common. For example, they heat up quickly, offer a specific (but different) temperature flexibility, a decently durable battery, a user-friendly interface and a quick charging time. Also, both also share quite similar aspects that could be improved such as the fact they both tend to lose flavor.
Overall, we enjoyed our time testing both devices, regarding vapor and flavor, despite slight flavors drops. However, while we prefer the Vicod 5G 2nd Generation design, shape, and battery strength, we have to admit that it cannot beat the Pillar and its six temperatures setting, and its ability to handle concentrates and dry herbs. It literally brings it out of reach.
Getting to know the Device
Unboxing the Pillar
Available in black or gold, the Atmos Tyga x Shine Pillar comes in a great funky box. Small, compact, discreet and solid, the box features a simple but strong design, which we really liked. The black device comes in a black box and the golden one in a golden box. We tested the black one.
Atmos Tyga x Shine Design, Look and Feel
The Atmos Pillar is a portable vaporizer in the shape of a pen, a bit thicker than the standard pen-style vapes. It is available in either black or gold, and with a black mouthpiece on each, the Pillar looks funky. The mouthpiece on the top is made of heat-resistant plastic and has a built-in screen. It can be removed simply with a slight twist, to expose the ceramic heating chamber. The ridges ring all around the device help to cool it down and keep it at a temperature comfortable to touch.
Vape with discretion
The standard black design makes it a reasonably discreet vaporizer. It is small, compact and light enough. We could easily hold it, even hide it entirely in our hands. Also, for those who want a full discretion, the LED lights could even be easily covered with our fingers.
A very Portable vaporizer
The size of the Pillar was to our taste: small enough to carry around, easily in a pocket or a purse for some time. The good quality made it very convenient to carry in a jeans pocket. Overall, we were completely satisfied with the portability of the Pillar. Very comfortable!
Close look at the Performance
The vaporizer contains an embedded ceramic chamber for herbs (with a titanium cup included for concentrates) and a compact, ergonomic grip size. There are air holes on top of the Pillar, used to let the air get into the oven, then the mouthpiece. This is an essential aspect because it keeps the device cool while it is in use, and also ensures a good taste and flavors.
The inside of the Pillar is impressive. Atmos had the brilliant idea to add a sizeable ceramic chamber capable of vaping substantial amounts of dry herb and waxy concentrates. Moreover, that additional volume of material in the expanded chamber made a difference and allowed us to enjoy more extended sessions.
Atmos Pillar Vapor Quality
We were delighted with the amount of vapor produced during our sessions, and we enjoyed smooth and powerful vapor, quite unexpected for such a compact device to be honest. The wide mouthpiece frees up airflow and ensures it does not get too hot. The vaporizer kit Atmos Tyga x Shine Pillar includes a titanium concentrate insert for using with wax so that we could get dense, thick and flavorful vapor with low draw resistance, thanks to the open airflow. However, the taste somehow disappeared too quickly, sometimes after 5-6 draws, other times more. It lacked a bit of consistency, which can be really annoying especially if you are picky.
We loved the versatile vaporization the Pillar offers, with six vaping temperatures tailored to suit each vaping style. They range from 340-460 F, and each offered us about 20 draws, which is not bad at all.
The single control button allows to navigate the temperatures easily and select the ideal vaporization temperature, to fit any waxy oil or dry herb. And basically, the Pillar can extract the most flavors, aromas, and effects without causing combustion. The Pillar not only offers the most popular vaping temperatures, but it also let us choose between lower or higher temperatures.
The Battery, a reliable asset
The 1300mAh battery is perfect and high enough to combine perfectly with the heating chambers and get the device to offer pleasant vaping sessions. This high-capacity internal battery lasted approximately 2-3 hours after we fully charged it. And actually, charging also took us around 3h..
Easy to use
We like the fact that the Pillar has a very simple interface. And using the Pillar is fairly smooth overall, as it tends to be with one-button devices. Unlocking or locking the vaporizer works by clicking the power button three times rapidly in succession. The Pillar LED lights blinking means that the Pillar begins to heat up, before turning solid when it is ready for use. It took around 20 seconds to heat up.
Testing the Atmos Tyga x Shine Pillar
We did not waste a second to test the Atmos Tyga x Shine Pillar. As we mentioned, unlocking the device came merely by pressing the power button three times. Then the LED lights started to blink, meaning the Pillar was heating up.
The available scope of temperature is wide, between 340-460 F. In fairness, it was enough for us to reach a decent balance of flavor and cloud size. And the highest level we tested rather suited wax concentrates.
We need to tell you about the two airflow holes: they go through the heating chamber, and indeed are vital elements because they make it easy to draw a hit through the mouthpiece and allow the air to flow smoothly, so it does not overheat. In other words, they bring the air into the chamber, before getting into the mouthpiece. We could easily get a thick, dense vapor with a minimal amount of effort and could relax during our sessions.
Then, to increase the temperature, we had to hold the power button for 2-3 seconds, and the next LED started blinking to show the heating level. By pressing and holding the button again, we could quickly increase the heating level to the maximum. And the LED turned solid and stopped blinking, which meant the device was ready to use.
Using the Vaporizer with the Concentrate insert
The Atmos Tyga x Shine Pillar comes with a concentrate insert, which allows to use it with wax. We merely had to load the wax on the little screen, pop the supplement into the heating chamber and closed the mouthpiece. We set the highest temperature to obtain the very best out of the lemon-flavored wax we used. And it did make a difference; we really felt a nice a smooth lemon taste during, and thick cloud. The only pain point was that the taste was not consistent, it kind of came and disappeared within the first eight draws.
Using the Atmos Tyga x Shine Pillar with dry herb
We also tested the Atmos Tyga x Shine Pillar with dry herbs and used dry mint (our favorite flavor). After loading the chamber, we used the provided loading tool to pack the herb tightly. Again, like for several other devices, we did not pack it too tight, so it does not restrict the airflow. Loading the Pillar was very easy, the herb was smoothly sliding into the oven. And after, we just closed the mouthpiece, and the vaporizer was ready to vape. We had a decent vapor size and flavor quality. The Pillar managed to get the best out of our mint dry herbs.
We also have to mention the draw resistance, which was very low, so we did not have to pull too hard, to get large draws. Breathing in through the Pillar felt comfortable and natural. With very short draws I was able to produce nice amounts of thick, visible vapor. The ridged design is also a winner to our opinion. It seemed like it did an excellent job of keeping the vaporizer cool and comfortable to touch.
Overall, we had a good time testing the Pillar. We had a good vapor quality, it was thick and dense most of the time, and we were quite impressed by the amount of vapor produced. The inconsistent taste while using the was, was the only disappointment.
Pros and Cons of the Vaporizer
- Handles herbs and concentrates
- Wider ceramic heating chamber
- Wide choice of temperatures
- Light, discreet
- Cool style and box
- Vapor taste inconsistent with wax
Our Final thoughts
The idea of combining forces and getting the best technologies from each manufacturer was very promising, and we were really excited to test and discover Atmos Tyga x Shine Pillar. Unfortunately, the final result is not really reaching our full expectation. And after trying it, we have quite mixed feelings about it.
While it has exciting features which, in theory, should make it a great vaporizer, we felt after trying that it was okay, but not extraordinary. We expected, for example, slightly better and higher vapor quality given the improved heating technology.
Despite this slight disappointment, we are convinced that the Atmos Tyga x Shine Pillar is a solid vaporizer that performed well in several aspects. The wider chamber is definitely a big plus, a perfect size and we also liked how easy to use this vaporizer was.
