The Khan is a dry herb vaporizer from Mig Vapor, in case the name seems strange. It is a simple-looking device with a top-loading chamber, and a tiny LED screen at its base. The entire device is quite small, fitting into any hand with ease. The Khan has a glass top cap/mouthpiece that fits snug over the 14mm in diameter heating chamber (0.55 inches).

The Khan Dry Herb Vaporizer: Taking a Look

The Khan is a very straightforward device. Looking at it reveals what it is, unlike with some dry herb vapes that make you guess what it does. The one distinctive thing about the Khan is the nickel snake ornament that slithers its way upward like a sliver of vapor rising from the chamber.

The snake comes on both color options of the Khan, Thunder Red (gold-plated), and Onyx Black (silver-plated). The one thing that gives away the Khan as a vaporizer is its LED display. The screen is small, and the circular firing button underneath turns on the device and allows for precision temperature control.

There are no other buttons. Click the power button a certain amount of times to put the device into temperature control mode, but more about that later. Without the LED, it would be hard to guess what the Khan is really.

It makes one think that maybe the Khan would have been better without a LED display, and use preset temperature instead, but that is a matter for another review. The Khan has a temperature range between 302F-464F, which is quite high for such a tiny device.

Even the mighty Mighty with its double-barreled power source or the PAX 3 with its higher-capacity 3500mAh battery can only get to a maximum of 410F and 420F, respectively. So this tiny device promising such high-temperature settings is surprising.

High temperatures produce a lot of clouds, but they tax battery life and make units uncomfortably hot to hold, as well as making hot vapor. Maybe hot vapor is why Mig Vapor put a Pyrex glass mouthpiece over the ceramic chamber.

The attachment acts as both a top cap, a vapor path, and a mouthpiece. It fits onto the oven snug and takes a firm wiggle or two to remove it. Glass mouthpieces make for better tasting vapor, but are not the best thing to be carrying around with you.

Would you put anything made of glass in your pocket?

As they did with the Bug RX vape pen for dabs, Mig Vapor should have included a metal top cap to cover the delicate glass section when the device is not in use or someone’s pocket. There is a USB charging port on the base of the Khan, to charge the massive 2200mAh battery.

What’s Included in the kit:

  • One Khan vaporizer
  • One glass mouthpiece
  • One glass bubbler/water filter
  • One cleaning brush
  • One pair of tweezers
  • One USB charging cable
  • One alcohol wipe
  • User manual

The outer housing, which can come in either Thunder Red or Onyx Black, is all aluminum. The exterior also features a gold-plated ornamental snake along its front. Inside, the Khan has a 2200mAh battery and can reach a high temperature of 464F.

Getting the Khan to Work

With its simple set-up and configuration, getting the Khan to work is not that difficult. Charging the battery is the priority, and charge time (from a completely depleted cell) takes around 2-3 hours. The device does not feature pass-through charging, although that would’ve been lovely.

The oven starts heating as soon as you turn on the unit with five-clicks of the power button. When the LED ring around the button starts blinking red that means the chamber is heating up. The LED turns green, and the device vibrates when it’s reached the set temperature.

VD Khan button

Now, about the temperature, as mentioned above, there is only one button on this interface, so adjustments need to be done via the single power button. Click and hold the power button for three seconds to enter temperature adjustment mode.

Changing the temperature requires only pressing the power button once every one second to change the setting by one degree if you want to change it faster, press and hold the button to turn it by 50-degree increments.

The screen displays three readings: current temperature, set temperature, timer, and battery life. The central, real-time temperature is the largest, and the set temperature and timer are bunched together on the right side of the LED.

The timer counts down each session, which lasts five minutes, then the device switches off automatically. Of course, no one has to vape the entire five minutes. You can turn off the device before time runs out.

Vape-Time

The ceramic heating chamber can hold up to 0.5g of product, which, according to Mig Vapor, is the biggest in the industry. Not sure if that claim holds up, but for a small, portable device it’s a lot of room. Although, a large chamber is not always a great thing.

The ideal would be to get the most vapor from the smallest amount of material. So having a large chamber may mean using as much as material as possible, but that is not the point. Still, Mig Vapor is trying to impress with their large oven so put as much material as it can hold.

A word about the two glass pieces in the kit

One part is the standard mouthpiece that users press-fit to the top of the oven, while the other acts as a bubbler/water filter that screws into the stainless steel threads around the chamber. They are both great performers, but the bubbler water filter looks a little awkward atop the Khan’s small frame.

mouthpiece khan

It did do its job though, as the vapor came out cooler, and less harsh than with the regular mouthpiece. The Pyrex glass mouthpiece worked fine, but getting the unit to its highest temperature made it just a teeny-bit hot, and a little uncomfortable.

Giving the Khan such a high-temperature maximum seems more a novelty than a real benefit. At lower temperatures, even at 400F, the vape is smooth, tasty, and warm (without being hot). Pushing the unit to 464F is not always good and could overkill. As an advantage, that higher temperature allows getting a needed effect faster. The unit got hot too hold, and the glass mouthpiece was also overly warm.

The standard glass mouthpiece could’ve also been a little more full. It’s not bad now, as it is, but having a fuller escape vent would’ve made more sense, given the short distance between the chamber and the mouthpiece.

The Competitors: The Matrix vs. PAX 3 vs. the Davinci IQ

The Mig Vapor Matrix

The Mig Vapor Matrix is a powerful dual-use device (herbs and concentrates) that has a high temperature of 435F. It also features an OLED screen, and two up/down buttons for precision temperature adjustments.

VD Mig Vapor Matrix

It has a 2200mAh internal battery and an oven chamber made of ceramic. The unit stands at just over 135mm or 5.3 inches, so it is much larger than the Khan.

PAX 3

The PAX 3 is another dual-use device (it vapes both herbs and concentrates) that features an internal 3500mAh battery and four pre-loaded temperature settings, the highest being 420F.

VD Pax 3

The PAX 3 has Bluetooth compatibility and users can set a precise temperature with the aid of a downloadable app. The PAX 3 uses a hybrid heating style (conduction and convection) and has an internal all-ceramic heating chamber.

Davinci IQ

The Davinci IQ is only for dry herb vaping, and instead of an OLED display, it uses an array of 51 pin-hole LED lights to show temperature and its operating mode.

DaVinci MIQRO brown mouthpeace

The IQ has four Smart Path temperature ranges installed onto its interface, but users can also control the temperature via a smartphone app. The IQ has a dedicated ceramic zirconia vapor path and a bottom-loading materials chamber, which is also ceramic zirconia.

The Khan Dry Herb Vaporizer: Powerful Name, Great Vape

Mig Vapor hasn’t come out with a new device in a while, at least since the updated wax and concentrates version of the Herb-E. Mig Vapor was looking to make a big splash, and they increase the temperature level to the highest degree for the best vaping experience. The ornamental snake on a high-capacity battery outlines its uniqueness.

With that said, the Khan can make some decent vapor. The chamber is easy to load, and the removable glass piece makes for simple clean-up afterward. There is nothing about the Khan that makes it stand out. It only vapes herbs, so no dual-use. Ditto, no pass-through charging.

It has precision temperature control, but preset temperatures would have gotten rid of the need for an LED screen, giving the device a cleaner look and feel. The temperature control is not the greatest, as there is only one button. You have to make sure to click the power button fast enough to change the temperature without accidentally turning off the battery.

It is compact, and ergonomic but not portable thanks to the glass mouthpiece that probably would not survive life in a pocket, purse, or bag. The water filter attachment does add to the experience of the vapor, but it, again, is not for portable, on-the-go vaping.

Mig Vapor made a portable, handheld dry herb vape that was also powerful had a long-lasting battery with precision temperature control and produced great vapor. The Khan gets it right on a lot of those points, but there is room for improvement.

What are your thoughts on the new Khan? What do you think of that name, strange, or cool? Is this device the one that knocks out the Matrix as Mig Vapor’s flagship dry herb unit? Let us know your thoughts on the Khan in the comments section below.

My way of understanding the significance of vaping came not only through the disruption of smoking but its effects on society as a whole. Now I bring people to vaping and bring vaping to people. I love using new gear, writing in-depth reviews and generally nerding out about vaping to like-minded people.

The other disadvantage to the Khan Mig Vaporizer is that the screen at the bottom of the chamber cannot be removed. They provide extra screens and a tweezer (wow!), but nobody- including the customer service team could explain how to remove the screen. Consequently, it gets clogged and the draw becomes more and more difficult. If there is a way to remove the screen that comes with the unit, I would love to hear about it.

many of these reviews are loaded with comments but empty of key details with the exception of the Mighty which everyone already knew is both convection and direct heat. So why don’t you start giving the Juice?

I’m getting a foul taste and smell from my Kahn and I think it might be the rubber or plastic seal round the mouthpiece getting hot. Anyone else having this problem?

If you haven’t found out by now, just keep turning the temp up. When you reach the maximum temp, it will cycle back to the lowest one. You can just keep pressing the button to cycle through until you reach the temp you want.

You have to increase to the highest temp and it will go to the lowest temp. It scrolls from lowest to highest.
