You can find vape mods in all sorts of shapes and designs, from a weird looking box to a high-tech gadget-like shape. Smok, however, has chosen a more familiar yet unique pipe-like shape for their Guardian series. The Guardian I and Guardian II had the same deign but looked pretty old-school because of the wooden finish. The Guardian III, however, has a sleek, modern appearance, which is probably the biggest selling point of the kit.
There’s a lot more about the Smok Guardian Pipe III kit than just the design, and this quick review will explore if it’s worth your money or not. But before we dive into the detailed discussion, let’s answer the question everyone has when they’re considering any new product:
Does this E-Pipe live up to the hype?
If you want to vape in style and stand out from the crowd, the Smok Guardian Pipe III is the way to go. But if you want extremely great performance and flavor quality, and are willing to pay a little extra, you can find better alternatives. Considering the design and performance of the kit, however, it surely justifies the $73.95 price tag.
Again, it’s the unique design. Be prepared to attract a lot of attraction as the Guardian III turns heads. There might be other unique and elegant vaporizers, however, the pipe-shaped Guardian is a notch above the rest.
Vaping Experience with Guardian E-Pipe III from Smok Tech
Made of polycarbonate and ABS, the kit has an amazing design, and you’ll be vaping like a sir. Measuring 101.8mm x 59.1mm x 46.3mm, it’s not concealable, but not too bulky either. The pipe-like design doesn’t mean that only old people should use it, but maybe only posh people should use it. Its black piano lacquer finish really sets it apart from its predecessors. On top of that, it has a beautiful, round and easy to read OLED screen. However, the screen, as well as the button, are rather awkwardly located i.e. on the top of the bowl. Also, the button carries some rattle, which I’m afraid might increase with the usage or maybe I’m just being too cautious.
You have the choice to select either a silver or black finish, the silver is a couple bucks cheaper, but the black is definitely worth the extra price. The kit contains a Micro MFV4 Plus vape tank, which looks and functions exactly like the MFV4 but is smaller in size. It can hold just 3.5 ml of e-juice, which is a nuisance. The kit includes a larger, 5.5 ml replacement glass tube so you can carry more e-liquid, but that’s probably not an ideal way to do it for most of us. What we really liked about the design of the tank is that it has a slide top that you can easily flip to the side and fill the e-juice from the top.
Moreover, it also features a USB port that’s placed under the battery, another not so accessible spot. However, it’s not meant for charging, but only for the firmware update, meaning that you won’t need to use it too often. Apart from these minor glitches, the design, from the drip tip to the bowl, is a masterpiece.
The performance of the Smok Guardian Pipe 3 mod combined with the Micro TFV Plus tank is well above average. It works in wattage mode as well as temperature control mode. In wattage mode, you can vape at 1-75 watts, though we think it offered best flavor and taste at 55 watts. In temperature control mode, you can use it between 200F and 600F. The mod can work with almost all sorts of coils, including Titanium, Nickel, Stainless Steel and Ni-Chrome.
The kit offers good flavor and pretty big clouds. Another interesting feature of the mod is that it comes with a Bluetooth, and you can control the mod using your smartphone through the BEC app. However, I can’t figure out why you would want to use one handheld device to control another handheld device? After all, it’s not your car that you’d want to warm up from afar when it’s chilly outside. But for some people it could be a nice way to impress their peers, for me, it doesn’t make much sense.
There is only one button, which makes the learning curve a little steep, but once you get a hang of it, it becomes second nature to you. It supports the 510-threaded design and one 18650 battery, with a magnetic door that’s easy to open and close.
The temperature control mode offers versatility, and you can vape at a resistance as low as 0.06 ohm – that’s insane. In addition to temp control and wattage mode, there are preset settings for quickly adjusting the device according to your needs. These settings include Soft, Medium, Normal, Hard and Maximum. Just as the names suggest, the Soft gives a very light and mellow flavor, Maximum offers a pretty harsh and warm vapor, while the rest are in between, irrespective of the wattage.
The Smok Guardian Pipe III 75W TC Kit is for those who really want a unique, stylish vaporizer. It’s not expensive and its performance is above par. Also, it offers decent flavor and good volume of vapors. We believe this can be a really good choice for beginners and intermediate vapers who care about the looks of their gadgets. More experienced vapers, however, might find it lacking in terms of performance, yet it can be a great addition to their collection because of its unique, quirky design.
