The Smoant Charon 218W is a box mod that uses the widely available 18650 battery and the ANT 218 chip. It has a range of one to 218 watts, and the user can easily control the temperature. Additionally, it has a fairly large OLED screen and easy to access battery bay. Overall, it is quite an easy device to use, and it has a unique appearance, which together make it a great buy for consumers. This review will go over all the details of the device so that you have a better understanding of what you are ordering when you go to the store.

What is Inside the Smoant Charon Kit?

The kit has all of the essentials you will need to get started. The box contains a Smoant Charon 218W TC Box Mod, a micro USB charging cable, and a user manual. The 18650 batteries are sold separately, but they are very common and not hard to find.

Smoant Charon Review — What Makes it Special?

The first thing people notice about the Smoant Charon is how it looks and feels and, needless to say, this is a very good looking and comfortable device. The part which you grasp is covered in black leather, and the body is available in many different colors — black, stainless steel, gold, copper, etc. It fits firmly in the hand, giving easy access to the firing button.

Smoants all have very good atomizer connections and this mod is no exception. The 510 threading is extremely smooth, firm, and it can fit anyatomizer measuring 25mm or less.

The firing button is easy to find and it is responsive. There should be no problems at all with the firing button getting stuck.

Another great feature is the battery bay. It is clearly marked and the connections are plated in gold. The bay has two strong springs in them that keep the 18650 batteries firmly in place. There is also a battery ribbon inside, which makes replacing them a piece of cake.

The OLED screen is similar to those of Smoant’s other mods, but this one is brighter and easier to read. All of the information needed to have a good smoke session can be found on the screen, such as mode, wattage, battery life, etc.

This mod and its tank will give you an impressive cloud and nicotine hit. While it does vape well, it can get a little hot when the user takes the temperature over 480 degrees, so to compensate for that, you might want to vape at a lower temperature. Other than that, the vaping experience is quite impressive. It delivers a flavorful, powerful cloud, and it rivals the vaping performance of a lot of higher priced devices.

How to Lock the Power Setting

Locking the power setting is easy. All you have to do is hold down the power and plus buttons for a few seconds to do it. Do not accidentally hold down the minus button. If you hold the minus instead of the plus button, the screen orientation will be changed.

How to Upgrade the Firmware

The firmware for the Smoant Charon is upgradeable. The upgrade allows the user to make custom TC and VW curves for the Charon TC. The update can be found on the manufacturer’s website. Users of the device note that the upgrade does not have an effect on its battery life.

The Smoant Charon Battery

The 18650 batteries used by the Smoant Charon TC 218 are common batteries used in many everyday appliances, so you should have no trouble finding them. Using Samsung or LG batteries should allow you to smoke for seven to eight hours above 100 watts.

How to Put Batteries in a Smoant Charon Mini

To get batteries in the bay, all you have to do is slide off the leather panel. Put the batteries in the same way you would for a TV remote control. It uses magnets to ensure that the door does not slide off.

Temperature Control Mode

The Smoant Charon 218W uses the same temperature control suite as the Battlestar. The control mode has SS, Ni, and other TCR functions. The temperature range runs from 200 to 600 degrees fahrenheit. Be careful at high temperatures because the device might overheat.

How to Change Watts on Temperature with the Smoant Charon

Changing it is easy. To change the wattage on TC mode, hold down the plus and fire button until you get to the level with which you are comfortable. Just remember that this device has a kick, and it is recommended that you keep it under 480 degrees.

Smoant Charon TS 218W and the TC 218W

The TS and the TC are both very good devices that have a lot of similarities. They are both very good looking devices that are easy to handle. One can tell that this company put a lot of thought into the design. They also have a good wattage range from one to 218 watts, and they both have the same range of temperatures. Most importantly, users say they have had great vaping experiences with both devices.

There are a lot of differences, as well, though.

First off, the firmware for the TS 218 is not upgradable, at least for now. What you get with that device is what you get. But, as previously mentioned, the firmware for the TC 218 is upgradable.

One other difference is the minimum amount of ohms for both devices. The TS 218w goes down to .05 while to TC goes to .1.

The most visible differences between the two models is their screens and sizes. The TS 218 has a large touch screen interface, whereas the TC 218’s screen is smaller and does not have a touch screen. To change the settings for the TC 218 you have to use buttons. As for size, the TC 218 is a little longer at 91 mm, while the TS 218 stands at 85 mm, making the TC 218 perhaps a little more portable.

The final difference is the price. The TC 218 can be bought for around $30.00 depending on the site you go to, while the TS 218 is more expensive at around $60.00. If you are looking to vape on a budget, you should choose the TC 218.

These are both very good devices, so before you make a purchasing decision, be sure to compare and contrast the devices to make sure you get what it is for which you are looking.

The Smoant Charon TC 218 and its Competitors

Smoant Charon TC 218 vs the Voopoo Drag

The Voopoo Drag has the same temperature range as the Smoant Charon 218W. They are very similar looking devices, save for the color schemes, but the Smoant Charon seems to have a slight edge in aesthetics.

VD VooPoo Drag 157W

Some Reddit users have noted that the VooPoo Drag has a lower TC rating, and some think that the VooPoo is too bulky and not very comfortable to hold.

Both devices are very good box mods, and either one would suit you well. For those looking for a simple device that is aesthetically pleasing and has a higher TC control rating, go with Smoant Charon. Those who like customizing the software and playing with the settings should go with the VooPoo Drag.

Charon TC 218 vs VO200 TC BOX MOD

The Michael VO200 is quite a popular device. It is powerful and by all accounts it performs well. Like the Charon, it is well built, so it should last the person who buys it a very long time. It also has some very good artwork on it. The only problem with it is the battery door. It tends to slide around a bit, making people think that it is not very stable.

Another issue is the price. It’s quite a high-priced item ($85.00). Considering that the door is not very stable, that is quite a high price to pay. The Smoant Charon is much cheaper and pretty much does the same thing.

Final Thoughts about the Smoant TC 218

This is a very good device for the price the company is asking for it. It is very well made and designed, combining good construction with aesthetic quality. It has a lot going for it, and it will make a great addition to any vaper’s collection. The only problem is that sometimes it can run a little hot, but by lowering the temperature a tad that problem can be nipped in the bud.

My way of understanding the significance of vaping came not only through the disruption of smoking but its effects on society as a whole. Now I bring people to vaping and bring vaping to people. I love using new gear, writing in-depth reviews and generally nerding out about vaping to like-minded people.
