Before the Dripbox 160, came the original Dripbox, which was an old mechanical mod wherein, you would push fire, and you would get vapor you got, no fancy controls or anything like that. The original also only had one 18650 battery, and with no adjustable settings, it was pretty rough. Now KangerTech has released a new version of this setup in the form of the Kanger Dripbox 160 TC Starter Kit.

Unboxing the Kanger Dripbox 160 TC Starter Kit

Kanger Dripbox 160 TC Unboxing Review

Starting off with the box design, Kanger Dripbox 160 TC Starter Kit comes in a standard cardboard box with the Dripbox name and a picture of the mod and tank on the front. It is not a super fancy box at all from the outside, and you are sure to just toss it to the side without a second thought like I did, but wait.

On the back of the box, it has the standard info about the device and what is included. Okay the waiting is over here is the coolest part, busting it open. Kangertech has designed the box to come apart from the standing position, so the mod sits neatly like a trophy, I thought that was pretty cool, and that you could leave it on a shelf someplace and use it as a holder for the kit.

Presented also upright beside the mod kit is another box which houses the manual, USB cable, accessory pack, spare tank and drip coil.

First Glimpse at the Kanger Dripbox 160 Kit

Taking the device out of the box gets you to realize just how big it really is, which is not a bad thing. The powdered black matte coating gives the mod a nice texture and look. It almost feels the same as a Reuleaux RX2/3, which I think is also a good thing because I thought that mod was comfy to hold.

Just the overall look is impressive. I really like the black matte finish as it seems to avoid keeping fingerprints. Also, the RDA on top matches the device as it should and was adequate to do the job.

What about the Design?

Kanger Dripbox 160 TC Design Review

The design choices are ones I can respect, I appreciate the move from a mechanical mod to an adjustable mod, having the ability to choose my settings over just fire and forget is vital nowadays to keep relevant in the vaping market.

The Dripbox 160 also sports three buttons which are accented in orange to give the device an interesting contrast between the two colors. The fire button is placed conveniently above the small screen and the plus and minus buttons on the front of the device. Another thing I liked was the USB port just under the two control buttons, so you can charge this thing while it is standing up; though I recommend using an external charger.

On the sides of the device, I spotted some airflow vents which do a pretty good job of keeping the whole unit cool. The back side of the mod has the Squonk Bottle which if you are not familiar with is a squeezable bottle that fuels the cotton and coils. I found accessing the tank pretty easy from the bottom of the mod as all you need to do is remove a magnetic latch; however the latch is not permanently attached so you may end up losing yours, luckily I have not lost mine yet. Lastly, also on the bottom of the mod houses the two 18650 batteries, which you can access by a push latch.

Is it too big or too Much?

About the size of the device, overall I think it feels okay for a bigger device at 84mmx60mmx40mm. I mean this thing holds 7ml of juice,, that is just massive. Not only that, the tank is internal, so the RDA is relatively small, which means the overall height is reduced. I found this made this kit relatively compact, and a great device to tote around.

The Dripbox Kit In Details

The Kanger Dripbox 160 TC Starter Kit is a step up from its predecessor, and that is a good thing as it hosts a bunch of new features and sports an extra battery slot, which definitely prolongs the time between charging. If you need to charge the device, it takes about 3-5 hours depending on the batteries.

What can the Kanger Dripbox 160 kit Do?

Turning on the device is three clicks on and five to turn it off. The screen is really, and I mean really basic, It has what it needs though. It includes a battery level, a resistance indicator, voltage indicator and wattage level. I found trying to change the wattage levels and temperature levels to be slow, and I would have preferred it to be much faster.

While the mod is on, click the fire button three times to put it into Temperature Control mode. In this mode setting, I noticed that It will always give you the max wattage of 160W, I did not see any way to adjust it. Pressing the button again three more times goes through the rest of the available settings, and those are:

  • Nickel mode
  • Titanium mode
  • NiChrome mode (Does anyone use these types of coils anymore?)
  • SUS or Stainless Steel mode
  • Wattage mode
  • Temperature Control mode

Holding down the plus and fire button changes the screen color to a more highlighted accent. Also, holding down the plus and minus buttons flips the screen.

Is it Difficult to Use?

The Kanger Dripbox 160 TC Starter Kit is extremely simple to use nothing majorly complicated about it, which is a plus and a minus for some. If you are a veteran vaper looking for a profoundly customizable device, look at something more advanced. However, if you are a newer vaper looking for something big to keep you going all day, then I think Kanger Dripbox 160 TC Starter Kit could work for you. It would be a right way for someone trying to learn to rebuild a coil. Again, I found it really easy to use, so keep that in mind.

Kanger Subdrip 160 RDA

Kanger Dripbox 160 TC Subdrip Review

The RDA itself is pretty good and for the most part gets things done; though, when it comes to its actual use I did notice some spitting which was annoying. If you have time to replace the coils or can even make your own, I definitely recommend that you do it if you get this device. All in all, it was usable up until I got annoyed with the spitting problem, your mileage may vary.

How to clean the Kanger Dripbox 160 Kit

Cleaning the Dripbox is like all the rest, I found just taking the whole thing apart and grabbing myself some alcohol wipes seemed to do the trick. Though, if you don’t have any alcohol wipes warm damp cloth would work; however, make sure the batteries are removed first.

Kanger Dripbox 160 Kit Performance

The vapor produced by this device is just great, it is a real testament to squonking devices. I took Kanger Dripbox 160 TC Starter Kit on a trip with me in my car, and I filled up both tanks. I left the Dripbox sitting in my cupholder in my car. Along the way, I was pushing the squonk tank and vaping and pushing the squonk tank and vaping, and since this thing holds 7ml, I did not even have to switch out tanks during my trip.

I like to vape around 50-70W, and that is where this thing really performs. I thoroughly enjoyed the simplistic controls and a large tank.

Last Words

With so many mods out there it is pretty cool to see such an interesting device like this squonking behemoth Kanger Dripbox 160 TC Starter Kit. I must note that everything is not perfect, but it is an excellent move by Kangertech to improve on the original Dripbox. I hope in the next iteration of the Dripbox we get to see some improvements in the coil, screen, and controls department, overall, if you’re looking for a large capacity squonking vaporizer, taking a look at the Kanger Dripbox 160 TC Starter Kit is a good move.
