Innokin iTaste MVP4 100W Mod Review: A Complete Package

Innokin seems to be that vape company that everyone has a fond memory of. I was waxing nostalgic a few reviews ago about how an Innokin Endura T20 was one the first devices I ever reviewed (but not vaped, I had an old-school cig-a-like as my first ever vaping device), while I was reviewing the Innokin iRoar Oceanus 110W starter kit.

Now, I get another Innokin device dropped onto my desk, the Innokin iTaste MVP 100W mod that features a powerful, built-in 4500mAh battery, and has a maximum output capacity of 100W. I’m not sure which version I received because there was no tank in the box.

I got that Innokin mod without a tank add-on, while I’ve seen other people getting the Scion included in their package, so not sure what’s going on there, but no worries. I had the Scion tank left over from my review of the iRoar Oceanus, so I was ready to vape.

What They Put Inside the Box

So I’m a little perturbed by the fact that my Innokin iTaste MVP4 100W mod did not come with a tank, while other reviewers seemed to have gotten a Scion tank with their kits. I know I already have a Scion tank, but, still. Feelings. Hurt.

First Impressions from iTaste MVP4

My first impression is that I didn’t get a Scion tank in my kit, even though I see that most other reviewers got one in theirs. I didn’t even get any coil heads. I got the stickers, but no tank and no coils. So that’s my first impression.

But I’ll try not to let this FOMO feeling overwhelm me and dull my reviewing powers.

I think the design team at Innokin has finally hit the nail on the head with the design scheme on the iTaste MVP4. Some other Innokin devices, like the iRoar and even the Disrupter, were just too confused regarding their specific design ethos.

They were neither sleek or straightforward, but they weren’t elaborately beautiful or ostentatious. But the iTaste MVP4 has a clear idea of what it is trying to be; a streamlined, beautifully elegant, and sophisticated box mod.

The majority of the body is made of zinc alloy, and its matte finish has a great feel to it. It comes in six different color options, the most attractive (to me, at least) being the cyan option. At the top of the mod, you’ll find a spring-loaded 510 connection, and there are slanted edges that run along with top of the mod.

These edges can also be found at the base of the device. Also at the bottom of the device, and opposite the side with the OLED screen and all the function buttons, is a charging port. Attaching a sold separately cable turns the mod into a power bank to charge all the rest of your electronic devices.

The mod itself is not so massive, even with that built-in battery. This device doesn’t scream out portability. At 93mm in height without a tank attached it would be somewhat too conspicuous and hard to carry around.

But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The front and back of the device are blemish and design-free, apart from the two logos imprinted on either side, the Innokin and MVP4 logos, respectively.

The OLED screen on the side of the device is large enough to display all your basic information about your vape, like wattage, resistance, and voltage. And to make things even simpler, the iTaste MVP4 features only three buttons: the power button, and the two up/down buttons.

Operating Details

Now, I do have to apologize to Innokin for not sending me a tank. I was told when I complained to my bosses that the iTaste MVP4 comes alone and in a starter kit, but they opted only to get me the mod itself.

So, we’re all good Innokin. My bad.

The Innokin iTaste MVP4 is remarkably easy-to-use. You click the fire button three times to activate it. And when you do eventually screw on that Scion tank, the menu will let you choose between temperature control mode or variable wattage mode.

In wattage mode, one con I found was that the wattage could only be adjusted in .5 increments, instead of the usual .1 increments. Now, I don’t want to nitpick or be a vaping purist who laments that “that’s not the way it should be!”, but that level of precision is what I look for in a high-quality device.

Accessing all the other vaping styles on the Innokin iTaste was quite comfortable. Holding down the firing button and the down button brings you to the temperature mode. When trying to adjust either the wattage or the temperature you hold down both the up and down buttons to access that reading.

And besides the battery life indicator on the screen, the firing button also lights up green, yellow, and red to show you if the battery is fully-charged, halfway charged, or if it needs to be charged now. Like, right now.

Vaping Experience

You would expect a mod that has “taste” in the name to be a supreme taste-making device. And the Innokin MVP4 does live up to its namesake.

I found that the Scion tank on the Innokin iRoar Oceanus was a superb combination just because the coil heads could take the power output of close to 100W. And the same goes for the iTaste.

I used those same coils, the Scion BVC 0.5sub-ohm coils with the iTaste, and I found that vaping at right around 70W gave me warm, vapor clouds that also carried a lot of taste in them. Going up to 80W the vapor quality pretty much stayed the same.

I adjusted the airflow to about a third of the way open, just to get a little more velocity behind my draw. The clouds were fantastic on this mod. The flavor I got was not revelatory, but it was still on par with the coils previous performance on the Innokin iRoar Oceanus.

The Comparison

Given my partiality toward Innokin, I decided to take it easy on the iTaste MVP4 100W mod and pit it against a surefire loser from a company I am slowly beginning to detest, Eleaf, and their Eleaf iStick 100W device.

I vivisected the last Eleaf device I reviewed the iKonn, which was a higher-wattage device but was a nightmare to use concerning its functionality and difficult-to-read sideways displayed screen.

The iStick also has that pesky side screen that drove me crazy on the iKonn, but thankfully, Eleaf included a separate, independent menu selector button that didn’t necessitate you spending the rest of your life clicking the firing bar to access the puff counter.

So this isn’t going to be as easy as I thought. The Eleaf iStick has two removable 18650 batteries, compared to the built-in, but powerful and long-lasting 4500 mAh battery.

But still, while a fully charged 4500mAh can last you at least a day with moderate use, two removable batteries, especially the ubiquitous 18650 type, can easily be put into the mod for long-lasting vaping.

Wow, Eleaf, I’m shocked and surprised. I had given up on you altogether, but that was before I found the iStick. Complicating matters, even more, is that each mod features precisely the same output modes, and nothing extra, temperature control, variable wattage, but wait a second, the iStick has bypass mode, which does intrigue me since I am an avid mech mod user.

And since the MVP4 does not feature that particular mode, I’m going to have to give it to the iStick, for being the more versatile device of the two. Sorry, Innokin, but I got to give it to Eleaf.

Pros and Cons

Closing It Up

I’m a little torn by Innokin. Yes, they were among the first devices that I reviewed (Mig Vapor, you’re in my heart too for the same reason) but their devices and mods just don’t try hard enough.

The Innokin iTaste MVP4 while looking great and performing adequately, was just that, adequate, average; it didn’t grab me by the lapels and shake me all around, which is what I want from a box mod.

With that said, I’m still looking forward to whatever Innokin has coming through the pipeline, and I’ll always greet any Innokin device with warmth and gratitude.
