The IJoy Diamond is a super-high-capacity mod that takes dual 20700 cells as its main power source. The device features a diamond-shaped front that recalls the shape and design of other IJoy mods like the Captain and the Genie.

The Diamond has a high-power output of 234W and comes as a kit with the flagship IJoy atomizer, the Captain X3S. The IJoy Diamond has a central, front-facing screen that blends in with the edges of the mod to give it a clean, minimalist look.

A Closer Look at the IJoy Diamond

The IJoy Diamond stands at just under 100mm (3.93”) at 93mm without the accompanying tank attached, and measures 35mm (1.3”) wide. The device features an integrated OLED on its front that blends into the rest of the mod, which features a sturdy zinc alloy build. The Diamond has a single firing button on its left side, which has a smooth, stainless steel texture to it.

There is a center-mounted 510-connection up top, which is spring-loaded and gold-plated and makes attaching the Captain or any atomizer straightforward. The unit takes two 20700 cells, but the kit includes a 18650 battery adapter that lets users install those cells as well.

The back section which is also cut in the shape of a diamond – is where users install their cells, and it is held in place with a strong, quad-magnetic connection. The OLED covers the whole front part and has two adjustment buttons on the bottom for users to control the unit.

The front of the device is also where the USB port is located, which is where users can install firmware upgrades to a Diamond’s IWEPAL chipset. The chipset enables several vaping outputs like the standard variable wattage and temperature control modes for nickel, titanium and stainless steel, as well as preheat modes that let users select half-second increments for their heat-up time.

Opening Up the Diamond Box

iJoy Diamond kit

The IJoy Diamond includes a plethora of goodies in the kit. Along with the mod comes the IJoy Captain X3S, which features two coil options as well as replacement parts.

Here’s what you’ll find inside the box:

  • One Diamond PD270 Mod
  • One Captain X3S Tank
  • Two 18650 Battery Adapters
  • One 0.4ohm Dual Coil
  • One 0.3ohm Sextuple Coil
  • One Spare Glass Piece
  • One 510 Drip Tip Adapter
  • One MicroUSB Cable
  • One Bag of Spare Parts
  • User Manual

Things to Look Out for on the IJoy Diamond

The IJoy Diamond pd270 has a standard setup customary with most dual-cell mods. Its screen has a vertical configuration, which makes reading the vital vaping information easy. Given the large size of the display, it shows a lot of information, including the battery life of both cells, resistance, voltage, amperage, puff counter, preheat mode, and timer.

The IWEPAL chipset has been around for a while, but it still lets users make precise adjustments, especially in the preheat modes, which range from soft, normal, hard and user. The User mode lets vapers decide how long the preheat mode lasts within a three-second range. The other vaping outputs do not have any other customizable settings and function much as they do on other IJoy devices. The only other menu options on the secondary menu are the puff counter and the setting icon to switch the screen’s display color.

The Size and Weight of the Diamond

Device tops out at 96mm tall and because of the dual-20700 configuration is a lot heavier than most other devices. It does have a solid build, but it is not pocket-friendly, especially when the Captain or any other tank is attached.

The back battery panel has a good, strong connection and it is easily removable thanks to the little tab at the corner of the panel that makes for easy removal. The outlay of the screen is also eye-catching, as it sits only within a diamond-shaped section, leaving the other sections blank. This gives the device a sleek, minimalist look that is not distracting or gimmicky.

The wide 510-connection atop the frame leaves a lot of room for users to attach many different-sized atomizers. Given that the device has a low-resistance range of between 0.06ohms and 3.0ohms, it is an ideal device for use with rebuildable atomizers so that users can set their coils for use with temperature control or wattage mode.

Using the IJoy Diamond

The Diamond has simple, easy-to-use functioning. The pared-down vaping outputs mean that there are not a lot of features to adjust so users can simply input their settings and begin vaping right away. The monochrome display also puts users’ minds at ease so they do not have to worry about the color or brightness of the display, although it can sometimes be a little too dark.

iJoy Diamond x3

Five clicks of the side-firing button bring up the main display. There is a lot of information on this main menu, but the layout is clear and legible. Near-sighted vapers may need to squint a little to make sure they can see everything.

Three clicks of the firing button bring up the secondary menu with the VW and TC modes displayed, along with the two M1 and M2 modes for TCR vaping. The bottom icon of the screen lets vapers reset their puff counter. The stated max power output is 234W and the Diamond easily reaches that threshold, as dual 20700 mods usually do.

Other, dual-cell mods, especially 18650 mods, struggle to reach levels higher than 150W if they are rated for higher. But the Diamond pd270 had no trouble getting to that level without overheating or any significant change to its performance. The temperature control range is between 200F-600F so it can also pack a lot of heat when in TC mode.

The Captain X3S Tank

The Captain X3S tank originally came out with the Captain mod, but it has since become the brand’s main atomizer. This version of the tank does not differ radically from other variations, but it does come with new atomizer heads. This kit includes two stock coils. The first is a 0.3ohm X3-C2 coil rated for between 60-100W.

iJoy Diamond Tank

The second coil is a 0.4ohm X3-C1 coil rated for between 60-90W, which gives vapers a lot of leeways to find their ideal settings. The tank itself has a 4.2ml e-juice capacity (no extender glass piece in the kit, unfortunately) and has a diameter of 25mm (0.98”) so it can easily fit onto the 510-plate without any overhang.

The Captain has a pushback, sliding top cap that reveals the fill ports underneath. The tank comes with a pre-installed 810-Delrin drip tip, but also comes with a 510-mouthpiece adapter so users can install their preferred drip tip. The tank also features massive dual-bottom airflow vents that are fully adjustable.

The Competition

IJoy Avenger

The Avenger box mod from IJoy features an intelligent AI-chipset that enables voice-control so users can command the device without using their hands. The Avenger is another dual-cell mod that supports three different battery types, 20700, 21700, and 18650 (with a special adapter sleeve in the kit).

iJoy Avenger

The Avenger features a zinc alloy build and can reach a high-power output of 234W. The Avenger also has a diamond-shaped exterior but it has a larger display along with a side-firing bar rather than a single button.

Vaporesso Luxe

The Vaporesso Luxe is a dual-18650 box mod with a sleek appearance that has the advanced Omni 4.0 board inside the device. The Luxe features a pristine 2.0” TFT full-color display that lets users manage the mod’s functions via two, touch-sensitive adjustment buttons on the bottom.

Vaporesso Luxe

The Luxe has a slim profile as it stands at 146mm tall (5.7”) (tank included) and 30mm (1.2”) wide. The Luxe box mod features several intelligent vaping outputs like Smart Variable Wattage and Temperature Control as well as custom curve modes and bypass mode.

Pros & Cons

Cons

  • Big, bulky and heavy
  • Dark screen

Conclusion: IJoy Diamond Kit Review: Vape Like a Diamond

The IJoy Diamond is a high-powered device matched in its performance by its size. While not the most advanced mod out there, the mod would be more at home with experienced vapers who enjoy pushing those clouds, given the high-wattage output.

The Diamond is a tall and bulky device given the enormous power it holds with the two 20700 cells installed inside. The device can easily reach its stated maximum capacity and does not lag or struggle in its performance. The main menu displays all the relevant information, but it is a little too squished together.

The Diamond paired with the Captain makes a winning combination. The coils provide the right mixture of heavy-duty vapor without sacrificing the flavor quality of any e-juice inside the tank. If the voice-control trend is not your thing, then the Diamond offers a good alternative.

I love the written word, and in my career as a journalist, I strive to provide the facts about everything I write about. There are too many false and alarmist stories out there about life and vaping mainly. My mission is to make e-cigarettes less scary to people with informative articles and extensive research on not only the possible evils of cigarettes and Big Tobacco, but the objective side of e-cigs.
