KandyPens MiNi Review – A Little Candy That Delivers It Hard

We’re expecting big things from this manufacturer, whose mission statement is to become the Apple of vaporizers. Here’s a quick overview of the KandyPens MiNi:

KandyPens – the vape brand used by many celebrities, especially North American singers – changed the game with the new MiNi, bringing a purpose-built wax pen to the market for the ultimate vaping experience. Building on the success of the KandyPens Gravity, this little device is a beast – don’t be fooled by the name. The all-ceramic design brings out the best in your waxes and concentrates, and the variable temperature settings give the best vape across a range of consistencies in dabs. You’ll find the MiNi on the KandyPens online store for $89.95.

What we like and didn’t like about the KandyPens MiNi

Pros

  • Huge airflow delivers on big, consistent hits
  • Easy to clean
  • Ceramic component vaporizes waxes and concentrates without a metallic/burnt aftertaste
  • Variable temperature settings
  • Choice between ceramic coil-less atomizer (standard) or dual-quartz coils (mod)
  • Lifetime warranty on battery
Cons

  • Replacing the ceramic coil-less atomizer means replacing the whole dish
  • Pricey

Inside the Box of KandyPens MiNi

The wax pen is relatively compact and discrete, and unless you know what you’re holding in your hand, it looks like a regular vape stick. It is quite thick though (20mm). The look and feel of the unit are sleek and uncomplicated, and it comes in 6 colors: Black, White, Lilac, Red, Pink & Turquoise.

The box includes:

  • 950 mAh Lithium Ion Battery
  • Micro-USB Charger
  • Ceramic Mouthpiece
  • Coil-less Ceramic Dish
  • Dual-Quartz Atomizer

  • Alcohol Wipes
  • Dabbing Tool (for loading the wax or concentrate into the chamber)
  • Instruction Manual

The manufacturer now includes both a ceramic dish as well as a free dual-quartz atomizer (which sells for $30). The Micro-USB port is great for charging the unit anywhere without having to lug a factory-specific cable along.

The KandyPens MiNi features:

  • All-Ceramic Design
  • Ideal size of 20mm x 113mm x 20mm
  • Sub-Ohm Vaporizer (for both the Coil-less Ceramic Dish and the Dual-Quartz Atomizer)
  • Temperature Control
  • Ceramic Disc SloBurn™Technology

  • Zero Combustion
  • Elevated Air-Flow System
  • Leak-proof
  • 10 Second Auto-Shutoff Safety Feature
  • Lifetime Warranty on the 950 mAh Battery

Huge Hits from a Tiny Wax Pen

kandypens mini partsThe MiNi has a single button for locking/unlocking, changing the temperature and activating the vaporizer. It features three temperature settings: 350°, 390° and 430° for adjusting vapor intensity.

The Sub-Ohm vaporizer packs quite a punch. We tried the ceramic dish first and found that it heats up the chamber in about 2-3 seconds and then keeps it at an even temperature. The airflow was surprisingly good, and the all-ceramic design is a big plus on flavor. Heating up the chamber before drawing made for some potent hits.

Next, we tried the quartz rod-atomizer, which produced HUGE vapor instantly – definitely a harder hit than with the ceramic dish, without a noticeable loss of flavor. Overall, airflow is massive whether using the ceramic dish or the atomizer, definitely an improvement on the previous KandyPens ranges. The manufacturer wasn’t kidding when they said leak proof as there’s no way for the oil to leak into the bottom, and the mouthpiece fits snuggly into the heating chamber.

The ceramic dish comes as a single unit with the coil built right into it. Our first guess was that it would be more expensive to replace, but it sells at the same price as the quartz coils ($29.95). The coils from KandyPens’ Donuts, Gravity, and Galaxy models lasted well over a month, and the MiNi’s build quality is nothing less than these earlier pens.

Setting up the Dab Wax Pen

Getting it ready was easier than expected.

  1. Charge the battery before first use (the battery doesn’t come fully charged as airlines aren’t allowed to ship them at full charge)
  2. Screw the ceramic dish onto the battery
  3. Scoop your concentrate or wax into the chamber (use the little spoon that comes in the box)
  4. Fit the mouthpiece onto the heating chamber
  5. Press the button on the vaporizer five times to switch the device on

Adjusting the temperature is done by clicking the button three times. The LED flashes Red for 350°, green for 390° and blue for 430°.

Bring The Hit Up!

Battery

The 950 mAh battery lasted around 3-4 days on a charge and the lifetime warranty on the battery is a plus over competitors (most wax pens have 650mAh batteries). Charging it was easy and didn’t require any dismantling, so it is possible to use the vaporizer while it’s recharging. The 10-second safety shutoff wasn’t needed once as we got way baked before overheating the device.

Pricing

While the price has been lowered significantly (from $134.95 excluding shipping), it’s still more expensive than most competing wax pens.

Design

We like the slow-cooked vape from the ceramic dish, and the fact that none of the oil can drip into the bottom means you get to vape all the way down to the very last drop. Good for the budget-stoner and easier to clean than every other vaporizer we tried.

Vapor Quality

Getting the combination of ceramic dish/quartz atomizer and the temperature just right took a couple of tries, but definitely worth it. The unit produced massive smoke clouds and delivered top of the shelf taste on every hit.

Cleaning and Maintenance

The MiNi doesn’t require taking out the atomizer or giving it a dry burn. The alcohol wipes included in the box are used to wipe away any burnt oil or resins simply.

How Much We Like It

The unit’s simplicity of use, along with the interchangeable ceramic/quartz coils and temperature controls makes it a great vaporizer for beginners and demanding users alike. We found the mammoth airflow and superior vapor quality to be the pen’s best qualities and firmly distinguishes the KandyPens MiNi as a premium wax pen. While on the higher end of the price range, the overall experience and build quality put this one ahead of the pack.
