Smok is a great vaporizer manufacturer, and I always enjoy their products; however, it does seem like Smok is the type of company that is either go big or go home – that is not a bad thing. The Smok T-Priv 220W TC kit review shows that it is like they are trying to strike a balance between appealing to the hardcore vape crowd and new vapers alike. How well did a balance they strike? Not bad at all!

Unboxing the T-Priv 220W Kit

Smok seems to stick with the norm with this box, nothing special about it sides are bland and uninteresting, though I do have to say the front picture is really nice with the device having almost a 3D effect. On the back of the box, it has everything you would expect including a scratch of authenticity code.

Tossing off the top of the box exposes the T-Priv for us comfortably sitting in a felted foam insert. Underneath the mod and foam insert is the rest of the kit, right away after taking it out you are greeted by the instructions manual and safety warnings, everything you are going to need to know about the device should be in the manual so try not to lose it. In The Smok T-Priv 220W TC kit review, I must note that packaging is familiar with the rest of how the brand packages so if you are looking to get one do not expect magic from the unboxing.

Further, into the box you have a spare parts bag which I always appreciate seeing so points there from me, a replacement glass tube because you never know when you are going to need one, vape band, a USB cable, and lastly the Big Baby Tank.

What We Think About the Smok T-Priv 220W

As mentioned before, unboxing Smok products can be a bit lackluster, and at a point, it is kind of tedious and unexciting. However, if you are not all about having a great experience from unboxing to first firing, then you will not have to worry. The big flash or draw is for sure the device itself, as it just looks fantastic.

When holding The Smok T-Priv 220W TC kit, it feels nice and weighty nothing out of the ordinary compared to other devices like the Revenger 220W Kit which is about the same size and does about the same amount of stuff. The accents on the device are unique, and I was curious about the little slits on the side of The Smok T-Priv 220W TC kit, then realized they are LED lights that change color when firing up the T-Priv. The Big Baby tank just completes the package with a beautiful big design and matching the color. Everything about The Smok T-Priv 220W TC kit just feels sturdy and well made – that is a big plus.

The Looks

The T-Priv what to say about it, the box mod name really applies to this piece of kit. However, it is not overly boxy on the edges which are rounded giving it a nice feel when holding it in hand. On top of that, the overall look of the device is almost like a fancy supercar or maybe more like a transformers body. The LED lights are a nice touch and light up a bunch of colors. I must say the paint on the T-Priv is outstanding and indeed an eye-catching job.

Too big, too small, or just right?

The size of the device is not bad right around the average size for a box mod at 86.6mm by 48.1mm by 32mm. The mod by itself is not too heavy feels right but loaded with the tank, juice, and batteries can become a bit heavy. If you are looking a heavy duty mod with flashing lights and a giant tank and don’t mind the weight, it is not a wrong choice.

Big Baby Beast Tank

I really like the Big Baby beast tank; this thing is massive at a 24.5mm diameter it holds 5ml of e-liquid which kept me going all day. It super comfortable and a joy to use. On the top is a Delrin drip tip which is removable, loading e-liquid is simple also as next to the drip tip is a small arrow telling you which way to push. Pushing in the arrow direction swivels out the top cover allowing for quick and easy refilling. The bottom has two airflow slits which are adjustable by just twisting the airflow covers.

SMOK T-PRIV 220W TC Kit Review: Features

The T-Priv is packed with features and exciting specs there is a lot to like about the T-Priv with some downsides that we hope Smok will address, so of the features that make the T-Priv interesting are:

T-Priv Specs and Features

  • 86.6mm by 48.1mm by 32mm
  • Dual 18650 Batteries – (Not Included)
  • Wattage Output Range: 6-220W
  • Temperature Range: 200-600F
  • 9-Colorful LED Strips
  • OLED Display
  • Stealth Firing Mechanism
  • Smart Atomizer Recognition
  • Over-Heat Protection
  • Supports Ni200 Nickel, Titanium, and Stainless Steel

Getting Started

The top of the device has the 510 connection and the OLED screen, on the front are the control buttons and on the bottom is the battery hinge door. You will need two of your very own 18650 batteries, and the T-Priv does not come with any of its own.

After popping in two batteries clicking the fire button five-time quickly will turn the device on. On the top, the OLED screen displays the wattage levels, battery levels, vape strength, resistance levels, voltage levels and puff timer. Everything was where it should be, and I did not have a hard time reading any of it, one thing to point out was it was a bit weird having the OLED screen on top, though Smok did give plenty of room if you are to choose any sized tank.

Adjusting the Device

Changing the wattage level in increments of one is a snap, just tap plus or minus once to do it, holding the button will scroll through wattage levels much faster at 10-20 increments. Unfortunately, the levels do not go all the way around, so when you get to the highest wattage level, you going to have to scroll all the way back down.

Pushing the mode and the plus button lets you adjust the strength of the vape, pushing the other button and the mode button lets you switch between wattage mode and temperature mode. I found it all to be pretty familiar and easy to use. If your needing to lock the device pressing the fire button five times again will lock it – again five more to unlock it. Little note, we found if you want to turn the device off when it’s locked, hold down the fire button for five seconds.

The menu of the T-Priv is accessed by three quick presses of the menu button, in there it has mode, puff, color, stealth, settings, contrast and power.

  • Mode – In here it allows you to choose between wattage mode and temperature control mode and lets you adjust the wattage and type of coil and TCR setting.
  • Puff – This lets you adjust the puff counter, reset, limit, etc.
  • Color – This option lets you change the color set of the LED’s (Rainbow, Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, Magenta, Cyan, White, RGB). Choosing a specific color will give you, even more, options like fade in and out.
  • Stealth – Thislets you go into a dark mode without any lights.
  • Contrast – Allows you to change the contrast of the screen bright or dim.
  • ADJ – This option lets you set your resistance.
  • Download – Allows you to update the firmware.
  • Power – This option is another way to turn the device off.

Overall, a good amount of options, pretty basic, however, except for options like the LED controls. Thought you would get much better battery life without the LED on.

Some Issues

Everything new thing usually has growing pains, and we did see people mention that the paint on the device would just start to chip, though Smok has reported that the issue should be fixed. Another problem some people were having was that The Smok T-Priv 220W TC kit came with defective coils out of the box.

Vaping Performance of the T-Priv

When I tested the device, I had it for about two weeks and used the heck out of it. I found the 0.15-ohm coil to be my personal favorite as it was able to vape between 60-110W, 65-70W is the area I find gives me the best flavors.

Vaping at a lower wattage, I quite enjoyed the flavors I was receiving, when moving higher up in wattage, I did have to start opening the airflow a little just to keep things smooth. Bumping up into the 90-100W range I need full airflow; however, I did not really experience a dry hit, which was a surprise.

I have to say my time with SMOK T-PRIV 220W TC Kit, and the Baby tank was a good one and would give it a solid 4/5 on everything.

Finally

I would have to say SMOK T-PRIV 220W TC Kit is quite a beast, from the large tank to the dual batteries Smok have brought out all their guns for this one. With plenty of options and everything you need to get started, it should not be a problem for veterans or begins to get into, especially with those fancy LED.

There are some pains that if Smok can address like screen and button placement, would have themselves a real contender.

I give this device an overall 7/10

My way of understanding the significance of vaping came not only through the disruption of smoking but its effects on society as a whole. Now I bring people to vaping and bring vaping to people. I love using new gear, writing in-depth reviews and generally nerding out about vaping to like-minded people.
