A much-anticipated follow-up to the X-Cube 2, the Smok H-Priv 220W TC Starter Kit is aesthetically appealing. They paired it up with the fantastic Micro TFV4 Tank. Keep reading to find out whether the H-Priv 220W is more than just a fashionable mod.
After the average performance of Smok’s XPro M80 Plus, the company has really done its homework. They worked hard to produce different temperature control chips. They’re now more or less on the same level as the ones from other brands, in the same price range. Smok has also upped the functionality and design of their mods. The H-Priv 220W TC is their most powerful box mod to date. Vapers may either buy the Smok H-Priv 220W independently as a box mod. Conversely, they can buy the bundle kit which has an additional TFV4 Micro Sub-Ohm Tank. If you opt for the first option then it will cost somewhere between $45-55. Otherwise, for the full bundle kit, the prices range between $60-75.
Upon first testing, the Smok H-Priv 220W TC Mod really impressed us. First, it has precise settings for adjusting the features and power output of a maximum 220 watts. Then, the design sports a bright red triangle for firing. This is a refreshing change from the typical firing buttons on other mods. Third, the buttons and OLED screen are on the top front of the mod. They did it in a way that makes the device more comfortable to hold. There is also a sliding magnetic battery cover in the back.
What is Different About the Design of the Smok H-Priv?
It’s obvious, that Smok’s design team has lots of skills and talents. As a result, their creative ideas are in tune with what the public wants. The most eye-catching feature of the Smok H-Priv is the beautifully striking color scheme. It is available in three different variations. They incorporate with the red firing button without clashing with the base color scheme. It’s evident that Smok has carefully revamped the design of their mods in a sophisticated way.
It’s commendable that despite being a dual 18650 mod, the product is surprisingly lightweight. However, it’s not flimsy. It fits comfortably in the hand and is quite sturdy. The H-Priv definitely feels much better than the X-Cube 2.
Users usually overlook the buttons in the vape world. They mainly focus on the performance. Everyone knows the buttons can make or break the overall effect and the performance of the product. Flimsy buttons stop working with time, rendering the device useless. This is even if the other components and features are in working order. The buttons on the Smok H-Priv 220W will prevent any discomfort during use. They include stiffness or heating up when the contraption heats up during a vaping session.
The red firing button is quite genius. We wonder why this wasn’t done before. The bright button is easy to navigate. As a result, it won’t require any fumbling around. It is also quite large, making it hard to miss.
OLED screens are typically on the sides of a box mod. The dimensions are usually long and narrow for a lot of numbers to be on it. The Smok H-Priv screen is square and they put it on the top of the unit. The numbers are very clearly visible and during a vaping session. Therefore, you can see all alerts and values without squinting.
Any amount of vapors is enough to make the screen foggy. Of course, this will require constant wiping after a short time of use. This is something that really bothered us.
How does the Smok H-Priv Perform?
The temp control works well without any problem. It comes with Titanium, Nickel, and Stainless Steel wires, in either single or dual coil form. The options for wattage output are the same for both wattage and temp modes. You’ll get minimum, soft, normal, hard, and maximum.
There is also an additional mode called ‘Power Mode.’ The chip is able to remember and store 16 various settings from M1 to M16. For those who often switch up tanks and builds, this is a great feature. However, even then, we think it is too much. This is considering that no one can want or remember 16 different settings.
Finally, we noticed that there is a significant delay in firing. Is this a valid problem with the Smok H-Priv 220W? It’s uncertain at this point. Maybe, it’s just a manufacturing defect that we were unfortunate enough to get. Perhaps the delay is intentional, but it is definitely bothersome.
The base of the mod has a sliding battery cover having 8 vent holes. The side facing inside of the battery cover has 24K gold plated negative and positive terminals. It hold magnets with the markers for battery installation (+) and (-).
Though simple, it’s a real pain trying to get the sliding battery cover back on once you remove it. The procedure is tricky, which it shouldn’t be. The battery cover is going to require a few attempts to attach and slide back on. Of course, it depends on the type of batteries the vaper uses. A latched cover would be better. We are hopeful that Smok will address this issue in future models.
With the outrageously high 220 watts, the Smok H-Priv 220w TC mod is a powerful device. It will appeal to vaping enthusiasts, especially those who like to keep up with fashion and trends. It is definitely much better when you compare it to the X-Cube 2. They need to change some of the designs before we can deem this product truly perfect. Therefore, we anticipate these changes in the next model. Otherwise, you can be happy that this box mod will operate smoothly.
