The SMOK X-Force AIO starter kit features a large 7mL tank, a 2000mAH cell for all-day battery life, and durable PCTG components in a compact, light, and futuristic, minimalist design for vapers who want an easy-to-use, no-frills vaping solution.

It features a unique transverse-mounted coil with ceramic elements for super-fast ramp-up times and a convenient refill design. The newly-redesigned airflow system makes for large clouds of vapor and great flavor at a convenient low-to-mid wattage.

General Overview

While most vape enthusiasts appreciate the latest RTAs, mods, and advanced features like variable wattage, there are also those vapers who just want their vape experience at the click of a button (okay, maybe five) without all the micro-managing. The SMOK X-Force AIO starter kit checks all these boxes and more. Its entire feature set is designed for the vaper on-the-go.

The X-Force features a compact and ergonomic polycarbonate casing with rounded edges, and a futuristic, edgy aesthetic. The firing button is a large piece of machined plastic that enables stealth-like, one-handed operation. The AIO comes in a wide range of bright, exciting, but minimal colors. It features a considerably large 2000mAH battery, chargeable via a convenient Micro-USB port, that outputs a solid 45W of power for strong mid-wattage performance.

Battery levels are indicated by a 5-LED design that is bright and well placed. The X-Force also features some automatic safety features such as protection from short circuits, low voltage, and an eight-second cut-off timer that only enhances the mobility factor. Finally, a sizable 7mL tank with a newly designed serpent-like airflow system and a convenient bottom mounting coil makes the X-Force an all-day champion. The coils also come in a range of resistances – from 0.3ohm all the way to 1.2ohm for vapers to tailor their DTL experience.

What Comes In The Box?

Build Quality And Design

The SMOK X-Force mod is primarily made from Polycarbonate plastic. The device has an edgy, minimalist look with angular cutouts in the chassis to enhance the ‘X’ design language. It comes in 6 color options (Black with a red firing bar, and Red, White, Yellow, Blue, and Purple, with a black firing bar). Overall, the device feels quite ergonomic and compact with its rounded-off edges and the tactile firing bar.

The tank is made from stronger PCTG material (PCTG is more resistant to chemicals). The tank or pod is a massive 7mL in volume, which makes the X-Force ideal for long-running setups. This capacity is limited to 2mL in the EU due to their TPD restrictions.

Battery

The X-force has a 2000mAH non-removable battery housed within the mod along with the other internals. A layer of ceramic is installed over the electronics to provide heat insulation from the coil. The mod has 5 LED lights to indicate charge level – 5 lights for 90-100%, 4 lights for 70-89%, and so on.

The X-force features some basic features to protect the battery from harm like short-circuit protection, low-voltage protection, and an 8-second cut-off to prevent burning the coil when the device is fired accidentally. Charging the battery from zero-to-full takes between 90mins to 120mins.

The Pods And Coil Heads

As mentioned earlier, the Pods come with 7mL e-liquid capacity which is larger than most tanks, and at 45W of power, it is quite enough to get through the day. The pod has a vertical airflow design that feels airy but not too loose and prevents spit-back. The coil is mounted transversally at the bottom of the pod with its 2 contact points touching the 2 connectors on the mod. It is inserted into a silica-gel mold that seals the pod.

The coil comes with gold-plated brass electrodes and a base of insulated ceramic to ensure quicker heating (and hence, faster ramp-up times ) and thermal isolation of the base below. The design requires the user to prime the coil adequately to ensure that the transverse airflow doesn’t burn the coil. The X-force ships with two 0.3ohm cores in the box, and 0.6ohm and 1.2ohm are sold separately (although their website advertises otherwise).

How Long Do The Coils Last?

Typically the coils should last about 1-2 weeks depending on usage. However, chain vaping on such devices can cause the coils to char the cotton inside the core and reduce the performance and life of the coil and affect flavor.

Cleaning And Reusing Coils

The coils on the X-force are designed to be use-and-throw and therefore re-using them is not recommended. But it is possible to maximize the life of coils by avoiding dry hits with the device and taking proper care to prime the coils. Also, since this device is designed for easy vaping, replacement coils are readily available in the market at low prices.

Using The SMOK X-Force

Using the X-Force is a breeze. Once unboxed, pull out the tank from the mod to fill it. The tank has a convenient refilling position near the mouthpiece with an opening large enough for almost any e-juice bottle. The Coil is to be primed as well and kept aside for at least a few minutes. Reinsert the primed core into the silica-gel base of the tank.

Similar to mechanical mods, the firing bar is pressed 5 times to turn the device on or off. Once on, simply fire up the device and vape DTL for big hits. This SMOK product is a direct output mod, meaning that all 45W of power is delivered to the coil until the battery reaches a certain low voltage (usually around 3.3V).

SMOK X-Force Review: Vaping Experience

This Pod-like system provides big airflow and loads of cloud production. The free-flow system enables the X-Force, to help generate large, light hits. The ceramic element in these atomizers provides almost instantaneous response times while vaping. Because of the low wattage and low resistance coils, the X-Force is capable of all-day battery life as well.

It works really well for those who enjoy DTL vaping at low wattages. The compact and discreet nature of the device definitely adds to the experience.

Flavour Quality

For a product in such a price range, the X-Force provides ample flavor production with any e-liquid. While it definitely can’t compete against more advanced and expensive devices, this DTL pod mod is more than capable of producing rich flavors and big, dense clouds. The large and easy airflow works well with menthol-like flavors.

Key Competitors In The Market

Smok X-Force vs. Joyetech Atopack Penguin

The Joyetech Atopack Penguin features a strikingly similar design to the Smok X-Force kit. Both feature a Pod like compact construction with plastic components and a bottom-mounted coil with transverse airflow.

Both AIO devices feature compact and discreet operation, large tanks, and similar wattage ~45 to 50W. While the Penguin has a smooth flowy design language, the X-Force has a more modern, edgy, and minimalist aesthetic.

Smok X-Force vs. SMOK Nord

The 2nd generation Nord product from SMOK is primarily aimed at MTL users while the X-force is mainly a DTL device. The Nord operates at 25W and features slightly higher resistance atomizers.

VD Smok Nord USB

The X-Force edges out the Nord with its larger tank at 7mL (compared to 3mL on the Nord) and larger battery at 2000mAH with a dedicated 5-LED battery indicator against 1100mAH on the Nord.

Final Verdict

The X-Force by SMOK is an AIO starter kit clearly designed for folks who are new to vaping and want something that’s discreet, practical and offers all-day battery life with decent performance. The fact that it’s capable of producing huge vapor clouds is only a plus. DTL enthusiasts can also take advantage of the well-designed and powerful airflow system that comes in such a small package.

The polycarbonate chassis is durable for everyday use, (no need to carry delicate glass components around). The large 7mL e-liquid tank, big 2000mAH battery and no-frills operation make this a strong case for vapers constantly on-the-go. The 45 watts of power definitely packs a punch no matter what kind of vaper tries this mod. And the wide variety of affordable replacement coils eliminate the stress of re-wicking and fiddling around with mesh and cotton (please, dispose of them responsibly).

I was a smoker for over 25 years. In this time I also earned my medical degree with a specialization in addiction treatment and counseling. That period has led me to vaping, my interest started around 2011. I’m fighting the tide of hysteria and dis-information around vaping that emanates from various fronts legislative, cultural and scientific. Having scientific councils support, I’m happy to contribute my thoughts, articles, and expertise.
